Need extra inputs on my receiver. I found a number of RCA switch boxes, but they're pretty ugly. Is there anything that looks like a stereo component and doesn't cost a fortune?

How about this. It's 17" wide and works just fine for audio only switching.
AFAIK they're no longer in production. However they are available on "that" site.
Looks kind of cool. Might be what I am looking for! Thanks.

So, the next question is, if I end up going with some Chinese made switch box, can it degrade the audio quality, or are these just pass-through devices?

Currently there are three DBX 200 program route selectors (switchers) deployed in the hodge podge of my supposed system. They each accommodate three inputs but are equipped with outputs for recording and dubbing features. They are standard equipment width but rack mount ears were/are (somewhere) available.
Not an equipment size device but recently I acquired from MJM Electronics, a Chinese made 5 input rotary switch for use with multiple turntables. It was cheap like borscht so I was not expecting much. If it does not degrade the signal that I can tell and it does not induce hum. The action/feel of the switch is light and smooth plus the enclosure is steel so has some weight to it. As far as being made in China, it exceeded my expectations.

I've got a Psyclone PSC01 (actually 2, a black one and a silver one) that looks right at home with components, assuming we are talking about the same thing. They have brushed aluminum faces, 4 RCA inputs, you can rename the inputs, and they come with a remote (although the remote is not necessary to use it).

I like that. I will have to remember that, I'm using some Ocean Matrix half rack width passive switchers but those just look nicer. I kind of do need a couple silver ones of those. Too bad they don't come in gold (e.g. Pilot, Fisher, Scott)
I lucked into both of these for beans at the thrift store, and they are fairly reasonably priced on ebay. The only thing I don't like is just a minor thing - you have to manually turn it on each time, i.e. you can't just plug it into the switched outlet on your amp and have it switch on when the amp is powered up. Again, that is splitting hairs.
The silver one is especially pretty. The blue LED would go great with lots of vintage stuff. Sounds good, too.

I have one of those, too.I still use one of these, but for switching my Sub between Stereo and HT.
yeah, that's what I was thinking too, would look real good with a Marantz receiver and a Samsung DVD-HD841 to pick some perfectly random examples... I didn't have any desire to change my setup until I saw that

The remote 4 channel Psyclone switches video too which I use. It does have to be turned on, but most multifunction remotes can do that. The unit I have was $35 and the original remotes have been known to fail. If you switch at high levels you can pass a pretty good pop into your system.

The Adcom SLC-505 (SLC = Straight Line Conditioner) can act as a basic RCA line level switchbox and it looks like a regular component.
Matter of fact that's one of it's inteded uses,as a means to add inputs to a system that does'nt have enough inputs for the given set-up.
It can also act as a passive preamp as well.
It's not as deep as most componets though,,,it's about the same depth as their GFS-6/GFS-600 speaker switch boxes...
So it'll typically need to be the top component if the gear is stacked.
They can be found used fairly often,and they're usually not too expensive.
