Do unused electronics raise power bill a lot??

my mom was complaining about power bill but she is probably too cheap to-buy smart outlets .
/she claims my energy star rated mini hifi receivers raising the electric bill.
Could my stuff plugged in in bedroom be burning a lot of power ? I cannot just unplug it I will lose settings.
Any tips ? Advice
Does it even burn lot of power ??

Each might use 5 watts, probably much less, when it's off. (latest version of Energy Star requires it to be less than 0.5W!). Get rid of incandescent bulbs and save MUCH more.

I’m watching college football right now . So maybe she’s dislikes the sport , energy star products all in this downstairs second living room .
She doesn’t like the vroom sound of then bass boosts and mini sub. RCA mini sub some guy sold me it and whole 5ch low ennd speakers for less then the value of the subwoofer.
This system is beyond obsolete but sounds plenty good compared to tv speakers or soundbars!!

Should I try and sweep the inside of the rca or you think screen kept dust out ??

All job applications are digital and online we’re I live .
I do application on my phone my pc is trash!!
 
Well you are 28 and its her house so there is nothing you can do.

I'll give you a tip wake up each day like looking for a job is your job. After you have exhausted all the new listings every day from multiple platforms then start following up with resumes you have submitted. Tell mom and dad what you did each day and be open for suggestions. This should take an hour or two each day. Then ask what needs to be done around the house like its your job (as it kinda is at this point) or just do everything that needs to be done each day (you know what needs to be done) Clean vacuum dishes floors ****, scrub the toilet once in while. This will show them you have respect for your situation and you are trying.

After all this is done EACH day only then you can enjoy your hobbies and you will get less hassle and a job. Do not tell employers this or that is wrong with you. Apply for things you can do and keep it to yourself.
 
Hot water, refrigerator and (God forbid) electric heat make your contribution to the electric bill near to invisible. Does your mom make mini-pizzas?

Here's hoping when you're filling out applications on your phone that you're spell checking and make sure your sentence structures are coherent unlike your posts here.

As for unused electronics raising a power bill a lot, I would say no.
 
I have a out building that has its own power meter (i get a second bill for it) Its used to store lawn tractor, dirt bikes, snowmobile ect. I have a boom box type raidio playing 24 hrs a day fairly loud in there (keeps the mice away) and it uses 25 cents or so for the month. Our electric rates In NH are among the highest in the country BTW

I figured standby mode used little to no-watts , my Sony TV and stereo are both energy star products so there’s no way that they’re using a lot of power .
 
These days there are so many “vampire” devices that use power when supposedly turned off. Even the damn TV I bought for my brother’s room has a red light on when it’s OFF. The light goes out when on. Especially router connected devices, they’re always in some on mode unless unplugged.
If you’re affecting mom’s power bill you must have a pretty large stereo.
 
I have a friend with a 26 year old living with mom and dad, never left, not disabled.
Jeez, I left home at 17 when my dad worked for the FAA and transferred him from NY metro area to Tulsa. I did not see me and Tulsonians getting along in 1978.
Moved to NYC, it was affordable ($300 month one br in elevator building) but dangerous. Never had a problem, just had to learn where not to go at what time.
How things have changed. Went to CBGB once, the place was a real s***hole. That’s a lot for me to say, I have a high tolerance, but it was also filled with the bridge and tunnel crowd.
 
OP, just get your mom to buy LED lights for the house.
Then have a look at the electricity bill. What is the actual cost? What are surcharges and fees?

Then you go listen to music.
Rock on, do only what you love.
 
Tell your mom to look at the water heater, if electric it will state the average yearly usage. For most 30gal electrc water heaters it's close to $45/month. If she wants to save some real money forget investing in LED bulbs, the total savings will be miniscule in comparison to the investment unless you have 100's of lights.

Have a time clock installed on the water heater, give it two windows of time to heat the water. Say 1-2 hrs in the morning to heat whatever was lost during the night and allow for showers, and another around dinnertime for washing dishes and showers for anyone returning home from work.

With this approach she should see savings around $30/month, and the heater elements will last longer too.

The time clock is around $65 at Home Depot and can be installed in less than an hr. I usually charge $185 which includes the time clock and materials to connect.
