Do you remember Grandpa's first car?

Here you see Grandpa sitting in his first car (the left one), an Austin from 1927. This type became the very first BMW automobile, a license car called BMW "Dixi".

The photo was shot in 1927 in front of the "Gasthaus Lamm" (restaurant) in Hirsau in the Black Forest.

Do you remember your Grandfathers first car? You got a picture of it? Show it to us, that would be fine!

Unfortunately grandfather number 1 died before I was born, and grandfather number 2 never owned a car !

My uncle owned a Lagonda though :thmbsp:

My grandfather didn't had a car but he had a combine harvester.

I never saw my grandpa's first car. The first one I remember was a 1949 Plymouth. It was cool, it had a vertical radio and you pushed a button to start it. It had those hand hold straps in the back. That's about all I remember about it, except it was big and black. I think it looked like this:

Red and white Isetta

My paternal grandfather had a red and white Isetta. It was fun.

My maternal grandtather had a basic black Dodge Dart, with a pushbutton transmission.

My grandfather once told me his first car was a '29 Franklin which he purchased new.

My grandpa's first car was a '26 Ford Model T Tudor. Sheesh, the stories he told me about that thing.

Ahh the Isetta, we call it "Knutschkugel" - a ball you like to smooch! My uncle had an orange one and I LOVED it when I was some four years old.

no idea what granddads first ride was...he's been dead for many years and while i did know him,i was just a kid and i didn't know him well.i have heard he did a little time in the 30's on an auto theft conviction tho...i've often wondered what that car was since hearing that a few years back.

Never knew my maternal papaw-He died in 1929, when my mother was 4..But maternal Granny told me stories of a Scripps-Booth, & a '41 Buick.. Paternal Papaw-Fritz- was a Ford man. They had several V-8s til after the war, when he got one of those Oldsmobiles that had the V-8. They were VERY fast cars for their day. In '56, he got his 1st Cadillac, a 62 4-dr sedan. I can JUST barely remember that car. It was medium blue & had the little "Squared-Off" fins. Then he got a tan '60 Sedan DeVille. THAT was a Cadillac-a block long, GINORMOUS fins, acres of chrome, big wraparound windshield..

Not sure on his first, but he bought a '46 Plymouth DeLuxe after WWII, which lasted through my dad's then aunt's college years before coming to rest in their back yard. Used to play in this car all the time as a kid. Even had the fake whitewall inserts still on them! (looked just like the '47 pictured, but was grey)

Always wanted to rebuild that car with him so I could have it in high school. Just never worked out. :sigh:

Only remember the last 2-3 cars they had, between the two grandpas. We were a military family and rarely lived where they did.

Grandpa #1 went from a '56 DeSoto to a '65 Dodge Polara. I vaguely remember the car before the DeSoto by description, never saw but was told it was a Packard from the late 40's - he traded cars every 9-10 years or so. I learned to drive in the Polara, and had some other interesting adventures in it while I was in high school, including getting popped for 110mph in a 55 zone. Can you say 383 big block and positrac? Yeah, baby!

Grandpa #2 drove Chrysler Imperials, the last one was a '64 I think - I remember it being so long they had to take a row of bricks out of the front wall of their semi-ancient garage to create some extra clearance for the bumper so the garage doors would close behind it all the way. Same car as the Green Hornet drove. Don't think I saw the previous one(s) but he was turning them over a lot more often. We weren't in that area often enough to know about the other cars, though.

only car I remember my Granddad owning was a 1970 Olds 98 Brougham like this only dark green with vinyl top.

My grandfather's first car was a horse.

I doubt this Model T was his but there are quite a few photos of him posing with it. That's him gallantly helping my grandmother disembark. This car probably belonged to the woman driving it who may have been one of my great aunts. I always knew my grandfather as a loyal Pontiac man so I find it difficult to believe he ever owned a Ford.

More likely this was his: a 1926 Chevrolet. That's my grandmother, Ethel Bernice, seated on the front bumper. It's much easier to imagine my grandfather starting with a Chevy and moving up to Pontiac later in life.

No idea what my grandfathers (either ones) First car I do know the state of Kansas took grandpa Roberts (moms dad) 1938 Chev when his first wife was caught running liquor in it She went to prison.

On the other side no clue Grandpa was 57 when I was born. So the first car I remember of his was the Red and White 56 Chevy Station wagon I took my drivers test in. the only other car he had during my life time was a White 65 Malibu Station Wagon.

Dads first car was a 54 Ford Coupe Then a 1960 Chevy Biscayne Copper color. Then a 65 Jeep Wagoneer.

My paternal grandfather never drove, never owned a car but my mum remembers a 31 Chevy as her dad's first car.
