Doed anyone use Monoprice subwoofers?

Uhhhh....
I'm trying to find a decent subwoofer for my home theater system. I was thinking of buying a Dayton sub-1200, but I found a Monoprice 12 inch subwoofer for $108. The reviews are good, but I want to hear from more discerning ears. Are they decent for the price, or should I spend a little more for the Dayton?

Also, Amazon has a Polk PSW505 on sale for a great price, but I'd like to save a little if I can.

Well it only gets you to 50hz, that's not really home theater sub territory but if you use super small mains it may be better than what you had.
 
I would have to say that the copywriter is clueless. The crossover is adjustable down to 50hz. So you set it up to cut off your speakers at 50hz and there's nothing below it???? Also it's a 12 inch woofer. It probably doesn't reach above 100hz and likely goes down to 30 hz. At $108 it's probably not the best sub ever made, but I suspect you could do worse. Have no opinion on whether the Dayton is better.

I'm pretty sure the Monoprice goes lower than 50hz like Putterman says. I've read a few reviews saying that it is a surprising subwoofer for the price, but that probably doesn't mean much.

I'm leaning more towards the Dayton, but the sale on the Polk is tempting as well...:idea:
 
have you considered a used sub? i've seen great deals on well maintained subwoofers even on Craig's list.
 
There are some decent deals on subs on CL, just picked one up for $50, 10", 100W. Just starting to test my 2 channel with a sub, figured at that price, why not start there. I know it's not what I will end up with, but to fill in the time before I'm ready to make the big decision, it fills the hole.

I just made an offer to someone one ebay for $109 for a new one. If not, it's only $139 BIN, so I'd still be getting a great deal.

And yes I've been checking out CL. There's a Sony on there now, but it's over and hour away. I'll see what happens with the BIC.
 
With patience you will find one on CL much better than those. of course it's best in a bigger city.
 
If you are using the sub for home theater only I think you will be more than pleased the Dayton sub. I bought the Dayton Sub-1000 about 2 years ago and have not considered upgrading.
If you want to use your sub for music then yes, you might want to go for higher quality even if used.
 
Thanks everyone for the comments. I've been doing some reading and I've decided to take a stab at the BIC Formula F12. I got the one I was looking at on ebay for a really good price. I will see how it performs and I may upgrade in the future.
 
That's the one i decided on before my funds dried up,please let me know how you like it,maybe i will be able to pick one up in the future.
 
I got an old Polk PSW 404a for $50 at a local pawn, it weighs about 45# and is supposed to have a 200 wpc amp. It did not have a grill, got one from Polk for $30. The cross is supposed to be a 24 db / octave cut. It is only a 10" long throw woofer. I have split the preamp output to feed l+r input on the Polk, It is a wonderful match for my speakers. I would think the 505 even at $200 is a good deal because it is new. I find that the newer cheap Polk subs just don't cut it. I do have a high quality music system, not home theater.
