Just as the title says, I have this pair of 10” akai woofers that I’m planning to build cabinets for this summer but I’d like to know what volume the cabinets should be to get these to behave more like subs. They will be run off the B channel speaker output on an akai AA1040 to round out the SW117 that I’m running on the A channel.
Does anyone know the specs for these drivers?

Yes, you'll have to measure them. I doubt you'll be able to get them to go low enough to act as subs though.

+1. Unless it's a project for learning alone, look to purpose-built solutions for the most economical path to best results. There are things made to be subs, and things made to be other things...
Totally agree with grindstone. The 30S-45A are older drivers. I doubt they were designed to be true subwoofers.
You'll probably have much better luck with the Dayton SD215A-88 for $40 or the GRS 125SW-4HE at $60. Both are available from Parts Express. Don't expect the SD215A to shake the walls, but it will likely play louder & lower than the Akai woofer. If you want some serious low end, the GRS driver (or a pair
) should be more than adequate for most average sized rooms.

I am still planning to build out some new cabinets for these as part of a learning process but also to do some bonding/teaching with my kids. I opted to ask permission instead of forgiveness to my better half and she agreed to let me “purchase what I want” for a sub. Conveniently, my local shop has a 0% financing sale on so I picked up a Yamaha HS8 studio sub….and eventually those SW-117s will be replaced with a pair of HS8 monitors as well.
