Does it hurt Revox B77 to switch speed on the fly?

No, it won't hurt it at all.

I don't know why you would, but I don't believe there would be to many issues. Now an A-77 was a total different issue. All of then lost the motor drive output transistor and the the speed sensing coil. Never had to service a B-77, not even my own HS machine. I will say the braking system is fragile on both machines.

Just don't do it with tape playing. It may well cause tiny stretches on thin 1mil tapes.
