Does Your SO Dig Your Hobby?

My SO thinks I have a mental disorder. And says she's gonna be pissed if I die before her because of all of the stuff that I have. lol

My SO is from Russia and doesn't understand why I have so much gear and records. She'd rather listen to Nasha Radio on the Sonos. Yesterday however she brought our four month old in the basement to try and get me to turn it down so she can feed the baby with me. He was upset when the music stopped. Turned it back on and happy baby! I was smiling inside that I have a future Audiophile in the making!

Music is our world while at home. No television here. She even seeks out record stores if time permits while out of town. She leaves the equipment end of it up to me.

If it weren't for MLB and the errant Movie rental via Firestick TV, I'd probably do without Television. I'm perfectly happy catching up on Global News by the BBC via "The Monocle Radio" out of London, that also happens to play excellent World Music between news shows and documentaries. I was a BBC America fan, but since they just just discontinued "Top Gear", that put a kink in my Slinky big time.

Lots to be said about no Television. Think of the reading I could get done while listening to great music. Alas, I love Baseball in High Definition too much to pull the plug. Yet. Maybe some day.

Damn, only men have responded. I didn't expect that one :scratch2:
Its nice that some of you have tolerant, if not supportive, partners. I always try to support my hubby's hobbies whether I share them or not. I probably do more research on things he likes, more than he does, when it comes to any 'gift giving' holiday. He is not always as supportive but he tolerates most of my collections. Hey, he finally stopped telling me that I needed to sell my comics  Its the small steps lol
Oh and I did wind up buying 5 of the 7 The Cramps reissues :music:

While AK has some outstanding women here, even members of the year, the ratio is ridiculously slanted. One of the downsides of a mostly "lone wolf" hobby.

From your accounts I'm thinking you are either too good for him or just a very special person. My hat's off to you for your efforts!

On a side note, The artist who did the cover of the Cramp's "Bad Music For Bad People", Stephen Blickenstaff, lives around here. He still draws and sells prints to hundreds of his bizarre art works. He is also in a band called The Atomic Mosquitoes. Just maybe a signed print or original may be an outstanding gift. He's also very nice so feel free to hit him up.

Tolerant (excellent description). She listens to top 40 noise and reality tv. I'm not sure I'd need decent audion equipment to listen to Lady Gaga and watch big brother.

She generally digs my hobby because it makes me happy. I have been into music and gear since way before I met her in HS. She does like vinyl and when garage sale shopping will pick up stuff for me she sees. When we go to record stores she will mozy on over to the jazz section and usually pick up a few good ones.

Specifically about the gear no, she lets me pick what I want. Now concert wise she is my trooper! We go to everything together, sometimes take our kids. Everything from Rush, Scorpions, Dream Theater, Neal Morse, Transatlantic, Steven Wilson, Iron Maiden....It's something we do together and we have great time! We have been going to concerts since before we were married.....30yrs this year.

So far this year we have tickets to:
Steven Wilson - June
Rush - July
Scorpions - Oct

I am lucky in that my wife loves music, but could care less about the gear. On the bright side she knows how to operate it & appreciates the sound quality. I don't think she would mind at all if I downsized though.

We have some overlap in musical tastes. Bands like Steely Dan, Alan Parsons Project, Chicago, Spyro Gyra. Otherwise different tastes - like when we swap cars, adjust the seat and change the radio station. Sometimes I push her taste a bit, she didn't seem to mind Howlin' Wolf on a recent road trip, but ZZ Top not so much.

As for equipment she doesn't mind me dragging home broken receivers as she understands my passion for repairing and restoring electronic gear. Speakers - she doesn't really understand the need/want for more than a few pair. I recently picked up a pair of RS Super Tweeters and it took a few weeks before she noticed and asked "What are those eyeball things on top of the speakers?"

Will you marry me! (just kidding! :D)

My SO and I share some music in common, but mostly we're quite different in our musical tastes. She grew up listening to R&B/Motown, while I grew up listening to rock/progressive rock. She's a casual listener, while I'm a critical listener. She's not much interested in "hi fi" equipment, but she tolerates my equipment hoarding (and I tolerate her arts/crafts hoarding, although she has me beat by a mile . It's called being in a relationship :boxing: :D
