I would not be a wolf in front of them...

Summer 2019, in Uzbekistan : Alabaï (pronounce "à la by"), the True Lord Shepherd, pausing for a picture...

The temperature in the mountain's nights there was so high that I slept outside, seeking freshness, on Uzbek carpets... And Alabaï The Brave was near me, he was watching over me all nights long, like a Guard. So long my Dog Friend...

This is TOTO, one of the first neighborhood dogs we met after moving here. I posted this photo in January of 2022.

The neighbor who owned him found him wandering on the roadside up in the foothills. They attempted to find the owner with no luck, so they adopted him. He was 4 when they found him, and was part of their family for over 14 years. The owner came by on his bicycle this evening while we were outside and told us he had to be put down on March 3.

TOTO, you were one of our favorites. You will be missed.

Penny was the first dog we met when we moved here in 2019. She belonged to our next door neighbor. She was a rescue from the shelter down the street. She used to sit in her front yard and wait for me to come home from work and give her a treat.

We could tell her health was declining, and they recently found a brain tumor that was causing seizures, and they might need to put her down. Yesterday when I came home I noticed a van parked in their driveway, with a lady dressed in what appeared to be medical attire getting things out of the back and going to the house. About an hour ago, the neighbor called and told us it was in fact a vet, and penny was put to sleep to end her misery.

She's in a better place now, and will be missed.

Ever notice how when pets pass, it can sometimes hurt worse than friends or relatives?

Indeed - I have relatives it would be easier for me to put down.

Guess I may as well pass along more bad news. Dakota was one of our regulars for treats.

One night after stopping by for a treat, Dakota was attacked by a Rottweiler that was known for being aggressive. He made for awhile, but never fully recovered. He passed recently.

He and Penny were pals, so I'm sure they're together now, with Toto.
