drifting tone arm

Trying to rehab a Technics SLB100 turntable I found in the basement. All is well at this point except that whenever I lower the stylus, the arm immediately wanders off to the side. I could hold the turntable at a steep angle and it will still do this (uphill). I've tried balancing the tone arm and it doesn't seem to help. There doesn't seem to be a way to adjust the anti-skate on this model either. New at this! Not sure what direction to go, any assistance is appreciated.

You can check the wires under the tone arm and see if they are restricting the tone arm movement in any direction.

Also have a look at the cuing platform. It is possible it's bent or otherwise distorted in some way. Perhaps unlikely but if it is not level it could cause the arm to move sideways as it lowers
