Dual 1019 multiple issues

Hi everyone, I picked up a Dual 1019 at an estate sale took it home and tested it here is what I found:

1) The speed is off plays too fast I did not measure it just going by listening to a familiar song.

2) When I try to stop, the tone arm lifts, returns, but plays again. It just keeps repeating this action until I put it in manual operation.

3) Playing a 33.3 lp the tone arm returns prematurely about 2/3rds into the last song it lifts the arm, returns but just replays the record from the start.

Any help to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Rick

Good score!

It will need a full cleaning and lube. That is likely the biggest part of your problem (and maybe the entire problem). After half-a-century the lube has dried out and the grease is the consistency of old bubblegum. All of the mechanicals will be misfiring as a result. Once that is done you can re-evaluate what issues still remain.

I just picked one up on Friday too and will be looking it over today. I'll be looking for a service manual which will point out the lube points and the types of lube needed. There is plenty of help here on AK and on the VinylEngine site.

Yes, I will definitely do that. One update on the over speed issue. I found the tapered spindle lock nut came loose . This allowed the spindle to turn and get way out of adjustment. I can cross that one off my list!
After the cleaning and lube I'll see what's left.

If you haven't already discovered it, there is a Dual specific forum on vinyl engine. One of the chief contributors is Dualcan who has his own website

Wouldn't hurt to click on the Service Tips tab and look through photos of 1000 series restorations.
