Dual 1019 No Sound Output

Hello all,

I'm currently in the process of restoring a Dual 1019 for a friend of mine. I have successfully gotten all the mechanical parts of the unit working flawlessly. All the automatic functions work exactly as intended. The only issue I have is that I am getting no sound output from the turntable. So far all I have done is switch the RCA cables with ones that I know work, use Deoxit on a Q-Tip to clean the contacts where the RCA cords go into, clean the head-shell contacts and even switch cartridges. If I turn the volume way up, I hear a little bit of sound. Any ideas on how to fix this would be great. I have worked on many Duals, but all of them just had the usual mechanical problems. I have never run into a dual that has electrical issues.

I presume you are using a phono input on the amp, and not a line level input?

You could check for continuity on the tonearm wires.

I had an extra sled laying around that I know works and it still did not fix the issue. I am not sure what the problem could be, maybe the tonearm wires?

It's often the contact between the headshell and the arm.

Do the continuity test on all 4 contact pads. You might find issues there.

If you do buy a new headshell, get the Best Audio Parts one on eBay. It's the best option going including new and unused originals.

Yes, this is a common source of problems

Of course, if it is the mute switch, it means the contacts are stuck closed.

Hi sorry for the late response, I have been very busy. I already tried cleaning the mute switch with the deoxit and it didn't do anything at all. Do you have any other ideas of what I should do?

Hi there! I actually have multiple Dual sleds and all of them I know work. So im not sure what the problem could be.

But, I've had Duals which tested ok though still didn't get a consistent signal UNTIL I changed the headshell sled to a Best Audio one. I also have several sleds and other Dual tables. Been There, Done That.
