Dual 1219 Bad Motor - Replacement motor?

Recently, my 1219 motor gave up the ghost. With my DMM, I can see I am good up until the motor, after the motor though there is nada. I picked up another TT but would also like to fix the Dual.

Anyone have a lead on where to pick up a motor and what they go for?

I have been fixing the Dual 1219 for a verrrrry long time, and have never found open windings on these motors. Bad bushings, yes. But not this. Check again.
 
Thanks, I will check again. When I checked initially, no continuity when pulled out of circuit. I let my friend use it after I replaced a bad .01uF 1000v suppressor cap... I also plan on manually spinning the platter and hooking the audio output up to a scope to see my results there.
 
Have to agree with Seth (Notransistors) about motors. Never had problems other than I could not get one apart to clean and oil it. It sat too long in a damp basement. Other than that they all came apart and back togather working happily along. I'm old and have seen a lot of Dual motors. A few had a bad cap inside the start switch. Stole a cap off a junk table and all was well.

If the motor is frozen, you can remove it, take it apart, clean and oil it. Doubt it's bad. I do have a working motor if you need it. Free to a good home! I have cleaned and oiled it so it's ready to go. It was on a 1229 that had more problems than I have time to list! Let it sit as a complete sort of working turntable for a year. Grudgingly, I made it a parts table. A donor for three 1219s!. There are many Akers that can help,getting that 1219 working. My three "parts" units have worked out well. Two I will keep. One went through hell with me. Keeping it as it had many problems. We went through the wars togather. Cosmetically 8 out of 10. Found an early 1219, parts unit that was too nice to junk. Nice and came out really good. This one is perfect! Learned it's slightly different underneath. A keeper. Have 4. Once gone through, your 1219 will run without issues. Good luck. Post with. Awesome! I am always surprised by people's generosity. Just took my dog home from the Emergency ER, so I won't be able to recheck the motor for a couple days. Once I do, I will report back and let you know.
 
I had a little time tonight to take a peek. I removed the motor from the unit again and this time went to open it up and take a peek. Holy smokes, after forty something years those motor shells are really on there and don't want to budge. I think I might have to get some snap pliers or something to pry it open - regular pliers don't open quite far enough.
 
Only time I've come across a Dual with a motor that wouldn't power up (when it wasn't a mechanical or switch issue) was when the voltage selector blades on the motor lead ends tarnished and stopped conducting. The blades have a hole in the center and they stack onto poles in the switch assembly. Everything's got to be clean in there because there's nothing really forcing them against each other to make good contact. Can't remember if the 1219 uses this same design or not but the belt drives did.
 
These 'blades' work best if the sides are squeezed snug. This gives plenty of contact area for good conductivity. What really sucks about this design is that the pins in the connector block sometimes shear off.
 
this is a little older thread but not too bad.. (compared to some) I've been a reader of this forum for a while but never posted... I've a opportunity to purchase a Dual 1229 for 100$ person selling claims the motors dead and needs a cartridge... wondering if it's worth it... I see motors can be had 30-80$ and a good Shure cartridge is about 100$ so.. what say you... I'm some what mechanically inclined so can maybe to the work...
 
Just because the seller thinks the motor is dead, doesn't make it so.
First of all, the price for a non-working 1229 needs to be dramatically reduced. And who knows, the motor might work after a proper oiling. And if not, another used one is cheap enough. But one caveat. Even the best mechanic can do more harm than good when working on one of these beasts if he has no previous experience. Even with all my experience, I sometimes pull my hair out. Ask my friends, I am pretty bald.

I don't have enough hair to be pulling at this point.. and I've read these Duals can be pretty complicated to work on even for those well aware... maybe I'll offer 60$-70$ and see what he says.. I'm seeing duals on ebay being parted out for 50$ and up plus shipping..
 
And why do you think they are being parted out? Because it is easier to disassemble than to actually fix. Sadly, on ebay, sellers ask absurdly-high prices for examples that need lots of work. And when an example is listed as 'professionally restored', it means nothing. So, best of luck and let us know.
 
thank you, appreciate it... I always take a while to decide to spend money.. even more so on a item selling as "broken"... so we shall see....
