Looks like the speed change paddle is broken off which is pretty common for the 1229. The paddle gets stuck over time with dried lubrication and then someone tries to force it...

Good eye, missed that. I've got a 1218 that had the same "sticky" problem. Got it cleaned up and running nicely though. Gave it to the neighbor who now uses it with a Sansui 5000A. Nice setup.
