Dual Yamaha C-80 with Loudness Hum

With the covers removed.. That center strap needs to be grounded to the front metal panel. I use and alligator clipped jumper wire. The front panel/ center strap is grounded with the bottom cover secured into place.

After some experimentation I get the best result when I jump the rear panel ground to the center strap and jump the center strap to a screw partially tightened into the front panel. Part of the problem is that I repainted the bottom panel. I believe that this result means I should take the center strap out again and redo the solder pads under the PCB and then make sure there is enough paint removed where the screws touch to ensure conductivity. It still is not as quiet as the other unit with the jumpers but perhaps these changes will get me there. Let em know if you think there is a better solution. Thanks again.

The solution: A ground wire from the rear lug to the center strap. Less Tham perfect solution but it brings the two units to nearly identical noise floor levels.

Thanks again!

Does this preamp use the goofy plastic side panels that are always broken? Puzzles me every time I work on one of these.
