Dust Cover Clean Up

There's several threads here on AK regarding dust cover rehab, ranging from simple polishes as mentioned (Novus, ScratchX, headlight reconditioners, etc.) up to wet sanding. Polishes will take out surface crazing and small scratches/haziness, for the deeper stuff you need to pull out the wet/dry paper.

Yea its mostly minor scratches and scuffs. Theres just one scratch thats kinda deep. Thanks for all the suggestions!!

If a dust cover is totally clear (vs tinted), does that affect methodology?

I have a totally clear one with some feel-able scratches that aren't really deep, but definitely feel-able.

If it is very scratched, and plastic polish won't work, some headlight restoration kits come with 3 levels of abrasive pads, followed by plastic polish.

Otherwise, I wet sanded with 1200 grit sandpaper, then 4000 grit sandpaper, then plastic polish to take a deep gouge out of my clear Kenwood dustcover.

I got some plastic polish stuff by Megauires (or Maguires, or however you spell it) - brilliant stuff, took a couple of applications but it got rid of most light scratching and fade.

Hand sand with a block so you don't have a dished area where the deep scratch was. The depth of a little scratch can be deceiving. Be sure you wet sand or the plastic powder will plug up the sand paper. A small buffer on a drill may speed polishing. just don't get it too hot, or use too much pressure. Many passes across the whole surface
