It keeps the turntable clean, thereby keeping side "B" of the record cleaner. Also protects the tonearm and stylus from cats, kids, housekeepers, other peoples kids, giant hairy-knuckled kids with beer, and the kinesthetic type folks that feel the need to touch everything (including the sign that reads "Please don't touch/ask for assistance").
I have a rega which I think is damn gorgeous with the cover off, but looks like it belongs in my grandfather's house with the cover on
So is keeping the dist cover on worth the aesthetic hit? is it purely to keep the record clean, or does it benefit the TT itself?
Right, off when playing otherwise on for protection. If it looks good or bad I don't really care. The arm and stylus are what I am trying to protect.
