Dynaco a25 Speakers!! Should I get em?

Gotcha. I’ve read many of things you’ve written in the forums which will help me for sure. Thanks for that. I’m gonna get deeper into restoring fully but I want get them at least working...the cap shows signs of leaking so that has to be it. I plan on switching it out tonight or tomorrow.

Yes, chances were good that I might not have to make good on my offer. But if you get that new tweeter and need help with that one, I'll be glad to help out on that, too.

Hope you get these up and running right so you can compare them to the other speakers you have
 
Before and after...couldn’t find caps locally so will be ordering them..in the meantime I restored the cabs a bit and put new grill cloth on...def not original but will do the job for now

I have recapped a pair with Solen, seems to work well.

Those pots are extremely easy to service.
Pop the wire clasp and everything is exposed. Thank goodness they didn't crimp those suckers.

Oops, I got AR mixed up with dynaco.
The Dynaco's contacts are already exposed.

Either way, both brands are easy to service. :)

Thanks me too. I saw a picture on Google of somebody’s Dynacos with a really nice black grill but it almost looked like velvet - I can’t find it now of course. I ended up going the complete lazy inpatient way with the caps. I couldn’t find any caps locally so I just took it to my repair guy. He’s gonna replace the caps, resistors if need be, etc. Said I’ll have it Monday - he said 40 max he’d charge me...we’ll see.

Way different than the Chorus IIs I traded in a good way they were great just overpowered my listening space.
Yes the 25s punch way above their weight.

They have far more bass than they should for their size of cabinet that is for sure. They are a smooth sounding speaker for sure. Also with 40 wpc you will get some solid sound out of them. I will be curious to see how you compare the KLHs and the Dynacos. I like both but prefer the KLHs by a decent margin.

I just went to Joannes fabrics which is a place we have down here. 10 minutes before they closed LOL. They had actual speaker grill material which is what I got. Straight black. Very nice, nothing crazy. The Dark walnut and the black look really good together. Remind me of some Klipsch speakers I’ve seen

Definitely seems like they sourced better caps for the A-25s. I pretty much assume they came along around the time manufacturers really started to get it right. KLH apparently used some really spotty ones for a while so it's a more common point of failure. But even for the Dynacos they're pushing 40-50 years depending on date of manufacture so you're bound to get bad caps here and there just not at as high of a failure rate.
