Early 1950's RCA console

Gordon & Gadget. RS-199B with a RS1205c Tuner Preamp. 1964 Beitman's Pages 134-136.
RS-199B is SE, RS-177 is PP. Both were used with the RS-105C tuner in the 3VF* series. The 3VF3* used the RS-199 SE, 3VF4*, 3VF5* and 3VF5*. The pic in post #10 shows this as 3VF604, so should be the PP.

If not already mentioned, replace each cap one at a time. That way, you're less likely to forget where the old cap connected to when you install the new cap. Avoid excessive strain on tune socket terminals, they tend to be fragile. I'd just neatly splice the new cap lead to the old cap lead, keeping it a straight path like the old cap lead went. Use J hook fashioned connections.
 
usually they have tabs sticking through the bottom side that are twisted to lock them in place. You'd have to untwist them to pull the caps out.

Alternative, if you don't mind buying some new wafers, you can just drill out the rivets.
 
Waxy thing is 0.27 microfarad, uf (with a funny looking u that I can't make on this computer) in modern terms. Volts are whatever they are, depending what its rated for I'd use 400 or 630. Higher than original is fine, do not use a lower voltage than the original rating.

Good catch on that gadget. I didn't see the decimal point. I knew that the coupling cap values on my Magnavox amps were very small but I don't have any experience with anything else. Do coupling caps in all tube amps have very small values?

Paul, you can stuff the cans with new caps and I haven't ever done any but everybody says that it is a pain to do or you can leave them in place and put new caps underneath the chassis which would be a lot easier with the same results. If it were me I would put them underneath since it looks like you have enough room.
 
Generally speaking, tube coupling caps are under 1 microfarad. Part of that was technology of the time, part of it was simply a lack of need. A 1 microfarad paper cap with a 500v rating is pretty big and very few circuits would need such a thing anyway. Modern caps of same value and voltage are considerably smaller.
