early jbl theater system

Someone should post this over at lansingheritage. Working off my phone now so it's hard to get things done.

Wow never seen such a system. And it certainly is quite a monster set of speakers.

With a 150 woofer and 375 cd it very reminiscent of a hartsfield and from around that time I want to say???

I'm not sure anyone here in the states would shell out 100k for those. But this is such a rare jbl speaker set its anyones guess. Clearly would have to be a very well heeled fan with a massive house to possibly get the most out of their sound. May well be a classic case of far east buyers to get anywhere near their asking.

Quite the understatement to say, you dont see these every day ;)

You mean the horns, not the whole system, right?
No.

T550 is the whole system.

Horn is the model 537-500 Koustical Lens/Exponential Horn Assembly.

The 375 was only one component of the system developed for the Westrex project. A unique bass driver, the 150-4C was also produced. This driver had a deep, straight sided cone to provide the stiffness required for horn loading while remaining light in weight for maximum efficiency. Four of these drivers were mounted in a massive new enclosure - the T550A. John Frayne worked with Bart Locanthi to develop new acoustic lens to be used with the 375 driver and two of these driver/lens combinations were mounted on top the the T550A. For the first time, JBL had produced a theatre system of a scale that could compete with the largest Altec VOTT systems. The T550A was sold directly by JBL as "Jim Lansing Theatre Sound System" and was also manufactured by Ampex as the C6000.

I believe this is the same system that's been on the auction site for some time. Insane price.

That makes sense.

Its allot easier for a crazed collector to drop $100k+ on a banana with duck tape as its easier to transport and store. Which holds their value and enjoys a larger market is completely beyond me.

I'm already crazy enough so if I were also of crazy financial means I'd opt for the jbl speakers personally ;)

the banana was just a publicity stunt. Look at all the attention that created for the gallery.

Yes and no. A stunt of sort no doubt.

Art has also entered the crazy virtual of sorts world of today.

Much like the Banksy painting which shredded itself upon being sold. It's about whomever owns the certificate for the piece. It's why the the banana is essentially meaningless to the value it represents. And also part of why the Banksy painting instantly went up in value after being shredded. It became more of a noteworthy piece for the publicity it garnered.

Makes video game characters selling for thousands seem down to earth lol.

Yup different world in this new age.

Again I'd rather have the jbl speakers dollar for dollar as that's what floats my boat. I have my own banana lol.
