Earwax cleaning.

I use to buy the over the counter ear drops. Then my Dr. told me that hydrogen peroxide would do the same thing for a lot less money

Just barely decided to open this thread, but glad I did. I've been sticking q-tips in my ears for years (rhymes) and by golly, thankfully now, never again. Haven't hurt the ears to my knowledge but hell I thought I was doing some good. Health care from AK, it is the best forum on the net by a far cry.

Thanks gentlemen for another lesson. Up to now I've only learned about transmitting the audio, this my first lesson in receiving!
 
But Q-tips in the ears feels so darn good. Guess it's like sex with a hooker. Sure it feels good, but you never know what you'll end up with on your tip.
 
I firecracker in each ear works well but the trick is getting them to go off at the same time. Otherwise it just blows wax from one ear to the other.
 
You mean you're NOT sposed to unfold a paper clip, & dig da **** out w/that ?!? Say WHAT ? Ain't a good session unless you get 'em bleedin' a little...<grin>
 
Ear wax

Personally, I use the bent paper clip, have a couple lying on my desk right now (need a backup).

Most effective & most painfull:

Went to pull the motor on a VW once, crawled under it, & pulled the gas line. Anyway, the gas tank filled my ear up with petrol. Talk about HURT, I was running around in circles screaming, finally got my buddy to snap some vicegrips on the fuel line (had a fire going in the wood stove about 20' away, damm near removed the shop from the face of the earth).

Bad thing is, that was my good ear.

I use an earwax solvent that my wife picked up at the hospital (she works there). It doesn't really desolve the wax, it does soften it up so you can then flush your ears with water. And it takes seveal treatments to do the job.
I spend a lot of time outside and so airborne crap can build up, especially in the summer. But a real cleaning makes stereo listening a lot better.
Also, I have a friend who owns a place that sells hearing aids. They do free hearing screenings.
Yes, I've been tested, I dread the day when I get a bad test, but it's nice to know it's a ways (hopefully long) off.
On the otherhand, good headphones and a test cd, can't hear some tones, you have a problem.
 
My uncle got real "swimmy-headed" sick one time & I took him to the Emergency Room. They cleaned his ears out, I couldn't believe the amount of GUNK that came out. Karl's just one of those lucky-or unlucky- people who generate a lot of earwax. He has to get his cleaned out every so often, or he gets "swimmy-headed", nauseous, etc.
 
Well besides ear wax I had it bad big time during around 1995 and adding to the fact I have a slight skin condition where it managed to get to the inside of my ear canal I and with each moment of the jaw of just tensing the face I could hear this inner sound like creaking door that need oil!

So I used the cover that is placed over pen and dug it out wow it was a work of art it was like a (cone) very small of coarse but it was driving me up the wall for weeks and weeks.

I don’t get as bad now as back in 1995 and back then there was damn good film called Apollo 13 and the soundtrack had to be heard:banana: but not with that thing in my ear!
 
Back around '83 or '84 I was at work when suddenly I couldn't hear anything out of my left ear. Since I worked in a hospital I went to the staff clinic they had and a doctor there did the full treatment. Looked inside, saw nothing but gunk, tried flushing it, no go. She finally put some drops in, stuffed cotton over it and a bandage to hold it all in and told me to come back the next morning. The next day she flushed it again and suddenly I heard a "ping" as something fell into the metal bowl she was using to catch the washout.

It looked like a dark brown .22 caliber bullet. Hardened earwax, she said the beginnings of it could have been in there since I was a kid. Amazed it could pop out like it did.

I bought a wax removal kit a couple of years later when water started taking a long time to clear out of my ear after showering, etc,. It's a rubber bulb with a narrow tip that shoots a stream of water in there. When the ear starts acting up I get a bowl of warm water and flush it over the sink, maybe once a year. It's amazing the junk that comes out. Usually it starts with a bunch of little wax flakes but keep at it and eventually you'll hit the sweet spot and a slug of dirty-looking wax will pop out. After that you hear so much better... and for some reason, feel better too.

My 18 yr old daughter did the candle-cone thing. (Shut up). She showed me the inside of the hollow candle she used and there were some gobs of brown gook inside. I'm thinking that I should try it but they probably don't make a candle-cone thing big enough. It would probably need to be a traffic cone.

I use the pocket clip part of the removable cap on stick pens. A couple of scrapes around the circumference as far in as it'll go and its all good. Last time I went to the doc he commented on how amazingly clean my ears were - from the look he was giving me, it was obvious that he was suspicious of how that could be. And my family history has included dizzy/sick ER visits for earwax removal by lots of my relatives...

Liked the idea of blowing it out with firecrackers - doubt I could time it right either, though, and probably would just blow it from side to side... :D
 
Been doing the Bic pen pocket clip thing for years, works better than a $35.00 reamer. Almost never get blood, only when it starts feeling tooo good. I just wish I had a balance control on top of the head. I understand driving with the window open does in the left ear, at least on this side of the pond
 
WHAT? Could you REPEAT THAT??? Oh, wait a MINUTE! Let me get this pen cap out of my ear... :D
