Some folks put an astronomical BIN price on an item just so they don't undersell it. Any offers will determine interest and the item's true current market value.

I'm beginning to believe, that that is only part of what's going on.

What I really think is going on is some kinda semi price fixing game.

These sellers have no idea what the TMV is of something like this. So they mark it really, really high, with no intention of ever garnering that high a price.
But that ultra high price sets the bar for when the piece is relisted and perhaps eventually sold, at a 'discount'.
 
This goes on with midecentury modern stuff all the time as well.

There is some (%^$#) in Chicago that lists all his garbage old furniture as mid-century modern on Craigslist. The one saving grace is he lists it all with caps, so his listings are easy to recognize.
 
Must have a misplaced decimal point. Probably should be $7.50.

Just remember, things are only worth what someone is willing to pay you for it.
 
Yeah, they either:
a.) meant to put $7.50 and just messed up on the decimal point... maybe were greedy and meant to put $75.00 and messed up.
b.) figured, why not put some insanely-stupid price with the off chance that someone will actually fall for it.

Either way, I don't see that auction ending with a sale.
 
With $25.00 to ship the thing, I don't think he made a mistake. Overcharge on one and you'll overcharge on the other too...
