Ebay weird buyer issues

I think the buyer does seem a little off - but all kinds of poor form by the seller...

WTF is so hard about getting shipping right?

I eye-roll whenever I see such a disclaimer - and will likely not be doing business with that seller...

For buyers - shipping cost is very important when considering you high bid - not something that should be discovered after the fact.

Crappy pictures...and overly verbose, off topic description...

If you set you sale up correctly - all you have to do is say:

"Fair/Good/Excellent Condition" (pick one!)

And call out any known flaws...

Nobody cares that you just fixed the rack mounts...or how many times its been open. And it doesn't help to express "concern" for the future of your gear...

Being more succinct in you description will also help folks who dont speak English as a first language.

And the guy was OUTRAGED that I tried to gip him by telling him the auction was ONLY for the tuner ( you know READ THE AD !)

I had that issue with a Craigslist ad. I sold a preamp and in the pics you could just see the top of an amp.

I called the guy that wanted it, and he said he would take both for that price. I told him I was only selling the preamp, and he insisted that he could see another unit and wanted it included. Sorry buddy.

After seeing the e-bay reply in this thread, it may be the same guy.:D

Having been in the wholesale/retail business since 1981, I have found that there is NO pat answer to properly advertising something for sale, no matter how hard you try.

Best advice:

1. Remove everything but the item your are selling from the photo, except for possibly a white sheet or tablecloth.

2. Be sure to add the value of the white sheet or tablecloth in your asking price.

The POINT is it was NEVER a 2 for 1 sale....
If it confuses a person who doesn't read english, then maybe that is not the person who I would want to sell to. THEN he has the nerve to ask for a deal on all 3 ( BA-CA-TU )

If you do not agree with my "script" , that is your " opinion "...
I like to put that info out there.. So the buyer is informed.
IF the buyer cannot read & understand... well don't bid..It's that simple.
E bay's shipping calculator leaves a lot to be desired IMHO.

And I take great pride in promply refunding any overages.

But that's how I roll....

How so?

Seems reliable and accurate as long you take the time to enter weight and reasonable estimates of the packages dimensions.

And you're ignoring the role it plays for buyers and setting their bids...that's important!
 
For flat rate, not a problem... Odd sizes ( eg BA-2K ish ) boxes... even when i put in the EXACT dimensions & weights as packaged... it comes up with a goofy number..and it's typically WAY LOW....

Not sure what you're doing...when you're listing...you don't really use the calculator...just enter the dimensions and weight. Then every potential buyer will see the shipping to their locale. The amount YOU see is how much it would cost to ship it to yourself.

It works very well....

On a side note, peek-a-boo views of other equipment works like a charm on CL. Granted, CL gives us a lot more control over the buyer than ebay ever will. When I get the inevitable "is that included for the price", I do not reply.

I'm glad it's working for you .... It is not for me, so we have different experiences.
The bottom line is I ask for the ship to address, get a FRIM PRICE from the carrier and ship it out... Boom... Done.I'm not a " power seller " I just do this as a retired guy reducing inventory so others may have fun playing with toys I have enjoyed or repaired. My ONLY Neg feedback was from a guy local in CA who tried to get me to ship a BA 2K for 17.95 ( since that is what E bay shipping calculator told him the shipping costs were ). I did a NO SALE and he dinged me with my one ( AND ONLY ) Neg FB......But back to the POINT if as a buyer if you bid but do not understand what you EXACTLY are bidding on ... don't bid... can we agree on that??
 
Not really actually. eBay is an international site so you might expect some problems crossing the language barrier, and you can surely expect buyers to rely on what the shipping calculator shows them. If you really want, you can exclude buyers from continents and specific countries. It's really easy once you play around with the seller's interface and get familiar with it. Also, seriously... Your listing is really too verbose and kinda messy. It wouldn't keep us English speaking vintage fans from understanding what's it all about but if someone was a jackass looking to get you into trouble... Well, you opened that door real wide.

Right - and following that logic - by not setting up your shipping properly - potential buyers will "not understand...EXACTLY what they are bidding on" - and pass on your sale.
 
You might do well to play around with this

It works 2 ways - it will show you shipping from your locale to a few generic locations - or you can enter the zip code destination for exact shipping costs.

Just for fun - Lets say I want to ship my Pioneer Receiver to you.

It weighs - 37 pounds - since I'll be double boxing - Im adding 10 pounds for shipping materials.

Enter 47 pounds.

For dimensions - make some educated guesses on final package size.

Receiver is 18 X 15 X 6

Estimated package size is 28 X 24 X 12 - enter those values.

I entered zip code to Valencia - 91355

Results:

USPS Parcel Select - $97.89

USPS Priority Mail - $102.25

FedEx Ground or FedEx Home Delivery $42.23

UPS Ground - $54.54

Those all look pretty solid to me!

Next I'll try to walk you through listing with proper shipping!

Im in PA - and your Sony shows - $17.90 shipping...lets get this right!

Here's how your shipping should look in your listing...

On your listing - click "Revise Your Item" and enter the dimensions and weight of your tuner package - and - copy the settings shown here - and you should be good to go!

(This allows for use of the "Global Shipping Program")
