I heard earlier today that Ed King of Lynyrd Skynyrd has died of cancer. RIP sir, you were a hell of a writer and guitar player. :(

RIP Mr. King, who was a member of Strawberry Alarm Clock ("Incense and Peppermints") before he joined Skynyrd.

RIP, Mr. King. Saw the band open for the Who in '73. I didn't know he was a member of Strawberry Alarm Clock before that.

Learned of this early this morning. A long time friend, a great guitar and bass player. Probably the funniest guy I've ever met as well. RIP ECK.

I learned this from a pretty good documentary on Showtime the other night, "If I Leave Here Tomorrow" -- lots of old footage, and old interviews juxtaposed with more recent ones. Ed does lose a few points for deserting the band in the middle of a tour after Ronnie teed off on him, but overall his was a great contribution. Good show, catch it if you can.

RIP Ed.

I also just heard of Ed King's death at the age of 68. I was always a fan of his playing,as I've been a Lynyrd Skynyrd fan since the stylus first dropped on "I Ain't The One". I saw the "Farewell Tour" recently, and sadly most of our musical heroes are leaving us-if there is a Rock n' Roll Heaven I'm sure he'll be welcomed with open arms....

I got to see Ed take the stage with Unknown Hinson about 8 years ago at Nashville's Exit/Inn. T'was great to see the legend pick a tune or two.

RIP, sir.
