Electro voice Interface D help

okay, so ive been reading the manual for these speakers, and its not very clear on how to hook them up with the EQ to anything else but a reel to reel. theres also not a lot of these bad boys out there, some advice and guidance would be greatly appreciated.
for a turntable setup i am assuming: Turntable w/built in preamp ---> input on interface EQ---> Output ---> Receiver ?? and dont bother with the tape ins and outs?
PS: i have an interface "B" EQ for my "D" speakers, same EQ, right?

The EQ will go in the tape loop. I don't know what to do about the preamp in the turntable. I think that would have a variable output, no? (Do you mean a transformer for a low output cartridge?) If it's a transformer "preamp" for your cartridge, then don't even look at the turntable. Plug your EQ into the receiver's tape loop.

The correct EQ for that is the "C/D" eq, not the "B".

(I owned D's for something like 35 years before I gave them to my wife's nephew)

The reason it shows a RTR is because the standard way to do something like that is to plug it into the tape loop, then, take the (wait for it) tape machine that you just pulled out and plug it into the units loop. No big deal.

It won't matter for sound but your skirt is gone. There was (for lack of better word) a 'foam' skirt around the bottom of the speaker. For the sake of illustration, let's say it was 2" thick by 3" tall (probably not the correct dimensions) and it just hid all the stuff on the bottom plate of the speaker.

Also, do you have the original 12" drivers?? Those need refoamed about every 10 years and I don't think EV makes the foam anymore. I'm not sure that you can get the 100% correct foam for them (I'm also not sure that it matters 100%, it might matter 95% though??)

What kind of power are you using with them? I had mine hooked to a dbx 3bx, dbx subharmonic synthesizer and an Audio Control C-101 EQ (all strung in the tape loop) Powered them with a Yamaha CR-2040 and they could really make the walls shake.

I really liked those speakers.

thanks for the reply! :)
sorry for not being very clear, still kindof difficult to explain the situation im in since im still new at this stuff.
ive had these speakers for a few years and i would like to incorporate them into my turntable setup. a uturn orbit with built in pluto pre amp with a denon dl 110 moving coil and a jvc rx815v receiver. maybe i need something else to make it all work together?
so i can just go through the tape loop like you said

Input from the EQ to Tape out on your JVC
Output from the EQ to tape in on you JVC

Forget the pic of the RTR....

That's an early version (silver) of the EQ and probably needs caps.

I've been running my D's with a Yamaha C6 pre and Yamaha B-2 amp without the EQ box and with the port covers removed on the bottom of the D's... I'm real happy.

Enjoy and happy 4th !

its making more sense, but where does the TT go to? tape in on the eq?
what do you mean caps?

ive thought about doing the same actually, just running them without the eq, hopefully it wont damage them over time (not that i make my ears bleed or anything).
thanks and happy fourth! :D

The TT will go to the TT input on the receiver. You will turn the tape monitor "on" (to bring the EV eq into the system)

I don't think you will hurt anything by not using the EQ. You might notice a difference in sound and you might not care for it...but I don't think you will damage anything.

He is saying that since your EQ is older, you might need to replace the internal capacitors in it to bring them up to date. (seems things like those get old over time and fall out of spec, changing your sound a bit)

You've got a good foundation. There might be a schematic of the EV D EQ online. I once inquired about using an electronic crossover in lieu of the EQ and was told it would work (never tried it)

If you want to throw some balls to the wall, you could get an active crossover, biamp your speakers and then perhaps compensate for the lack of the EV EQ.

Note that this doesn't mean simply running two sets of wires to your speakers on the back. I'm referring to traditional (and proper) biamping.

Right, more or less. The A and B use the same woofer and similar tweeters, so the same EQ naturally works.

The C and D use different woofers- but the tuning of the woofer in the box is essentially similar enough- plus they used the same mid and tweeter- that they used the same EQ curves for both on the highs, and similar tuning on the bass. The D EQ will boost the bass a bit more than the C (at least on the Series II and Series III models), though- however, that can probably be simulated, by simply turning up the bass control on the amp, a bit...

i saw that in the manual, running a high channel amp and a low after an active crossover. i tried googling an active crossover and all that came up was car audio specific ones, am i looking for the wrong thing? maybe eventually i will conjure up the gear for that over time, like tube gear, but im poor at the moment, hehe.
AHHH, tape monitor! i got what youre saying. when i put this system together i will experiment.

Not saying this is the only/best active crossover but it would work (and sounds good, I have two of them) Do a google search on "Electrovoice DX-38"

It will handle a pair of speakers in a biamped situation and.... (icing on the cake) it's keeping it in the EV family!

They have other/newer crossovers. The Dx38 has been discontinued which also means, you can get them for a decent price on the used market.
