Electro-Voice Sentry 500's - refoam complete

I just ran in to a pair of 500. I’ve recapped them, new surrounds. I’ve done the tuning equivalent to the step down kit using my WiiM Ultra. It’s one of the finest speakers I own.

I did not re-cap mine. What condition did you find the old caps in? Good or bad, do ya think?
I'm also curious what you are driving them with?

Caps always drift off their values over time. That, and modern manufacturing makes a better product. Plus I like the work. Fun to do. Biggest change I’ve made was to perform a mod. They shipped with an external EQ and a port plug. Tuned the cabinet from 40Hz into the 20hz’s. Plugged with a rolled up towel. Duplicated the EQ using the WiiM Ultra EQ. Created a low shelf adjustment. Oh my heavens, can they ever go low. Monsters. You loose a bit of max output….like a care.

Sorry. I’m using a Accuphase P-20 70 wpc
Amp, Accuphase C200 preamp. They’re fully rebuilt. Sound amazing. I’ve also used my Hafler XL-600 and an ARC sp9 hybrid tube preamp. Beautiful.
