Emotiva XDA-1

Thinking about getting one myself.....but not sure if it's any better than my Integra 40.2 preamp that has a usb input for music files...... keep up the good work guys !

I didn't get one either. I think it's the new way to get manuals online via pdf. FWIW, I love mine. I'm thinking seriously of buying a second one for my primary system, which is pure vinyl at this point.

I received the XDA-1 yesterday. I replaced the Theta and spent about 30 minutes listening. I don't have an opinion on the sound yet. I wish it had a front panel indicator for standby mode. Hopefully, I'll get some listening time in this weekend, but it is tough with a five-year-old around.

I think they've fixed the volume problem. I use 96db efficient speakers and have zero complaints about it's volume adjustment.

I have had no VC problems at all.
There are 2 each Toslink and Coax,Standard Toslink and RCA Coax.
AES on XLR and USB.
Sounds better than it should for twice the price.
Mine is starting to break-in nicely too.

I'm using my ERC-1 with coax out, but I could just as easily use optical. I just found a coax cable a little cheaper. My macbook is optical out. I have an analog to digital converter for my iPod, and I'm using coaxial out of that, but I could use optical as well. It's nice to have a lot of choices. I may pop for another analog to digital converter so I can put my sony HD tuner into the XDA too. It makes it very convenient to have it all going from there into the aux of my receiver.

Thanks. I could see using both coax ins, but anyone using both toslink ins? Multiple cd players? Dat? What else? Just curious.

Options: Minidisc players, HTPC's, Laptops, CD players, DVD players, iPods/iPads, Smartphones, mp3 players, video games, DVR's, sat recievers, XM radios, digital radio, Tivo's, cable boxes, .....need more?

I'm using my xda-1 for my HTPC Sounds great, been using it every day for about 6 mths I run optical due to my HTPC being on the other side of my big screen from my dac and receiver. I'm still using the optical out on my sony vaio but am looking at a V-link or similar. On a side note, I was using itunes for a long time and thought it sounded ok, but then I gave Jriver a try and it sounded so much better....so long itunes.

I run balanced out of my ERC-2, and USB from my media PC. Considering getting the Musical Fidelity V-Link so I can transport my hi-res files to the DAC. Overall it sounds great and for the price, I can't complain. Plus it looks fantastic!

Yep. I absolutely love my XDA-1. And with the recent price drop I've been thinking of picking up another one....just because. You can't go wrong with $199.00. I see eBay littered with cheap Chinese DAC's in this price range and I can guarantee none of them will be able to match the XDA-1 for features and sound. It's just an incredible bargain.

That said, I've posted many pics of my system here with my XDA-1. Mine is a dual-core Intel running J. River (by far the best audiophile media player I know of), running into a Musical Fidelity V-Link asynchronous USB converter, then going COAX out to my XDA-1. Music Fidelity recommends using the TosLink on their V-Link because of grounding issues, but I've never heard any difference between the 2. I settled on the COAX because I don't want the extra level of conversion with fiber - just personal preference. The XDA-1 then runs into my McIntosh preamp and power amps, then to my Carver AL-III ribbons. I can find no fault in the XDA-1 at all. It sounds great, have had no issues with quirks, and has just plain worked since the day I bought it. I don't use the remote or the internal volume in my setup, but as a DAC it is simply unbeatable.

+1 for the XDA-1!!

...running J. River (by far the best audiophile media player I know of)...
Foobar2000 with all the add-ons is at least as good or even better audio player. And is free.
ASIO, Kernel Streaming, WASAPI for audio interfaces, UPnP/DNLA render, VST plug in support, decoding for FLAC, ALAC and any other format, HDCD, SACD ISO, DVD-A, DTS, DolbyDigital...

Nope, gotta disagree. I've used FooBar many times - still do on occassion of a new skin being released. Sonically I can't comment because I've never been able to spend more than a few minutes with it FooBar - it's waaaaay too clumsy and archaic. But everyday use, flexibility, feature set, it just is not in the same league as J. River. J. River's GUI and ease of use - from the minute you install it to the minute you turn it off is unmatched. Go to the J. River site to see what it can do. There is no comparison.

I tried out some coaxial cable along side my optical, HTPC outputs to both and the XDA remote makes it easy to A/B Coaxial seemed to have a slightly more open sound, really hard to tell too much difference. Left it on optical, maybe cleaner sound versus more open sound matter of taste I guess. I think the coaxial cable I used wasn't the best.
J river's media jukebox 14 is free but I think when my new HTPC gets here I'll get the full version. Lots of plug ins for it, have mine skinned to look like itunes. So much faster and easier to use and sounds great too. I'm sure Foobar is great too, tried it a long time ago but it just didn't have the ease of use that I like.

*WARNING* Obligatory photos ahead!!! :D

My XDA-1 running J. River MC 17+. It's running on an ELO 22" touchscreen, or on my ASUS Transformer Prime tablet using the Gizmo plugin. Very sweet me thinks :thmbsp:
