Empire 208 Project Begins

The MaxSeven 208.V1 in Action

Here she is, playing PF's Dark Side. I still have to install the tonearm rest, but the cradle is broken, so I'll have fashion a new one. Sound's great, no hum, smooth and steady. Only the soft wind of the Hysteresis motor can be heard if I listen closely with no music playing. The arm is set to 1.75G VTF, but I think I could go lighter if need be. You can see how big the table is compared to the VPI, which is big in itself. Still some things to do yet, but I did manage to cut the opening for the IEC socket tonight.
I ordered a stainless steel, laser etched name plate which has custom typography on it, and I have named the table the MaxSeven 208.V1

That is a really nice touch for a really nice piece of work...well done:thmbsp:. Preston

Gorgeous work Joe! She really looks great and I`m sure she sounds that way too! Every time I see that cardboard I love that industrial form and quality.

It's a beauty!

BTW, Empire put the motor and pulley up front because you have to get to it to change speed.

Tonearm Rest Installed

I fashioned a new rest cradle out of wood and attached it to the existing ATP12T mounting stanchion. Not bad looking I think.

I apologize for the grainy iPhone photos, it's just so convenient. :)

Very nice work Joe! I have been thinking about doing something myself with some spare Empire parts I have here. I don't have enough to put together another complete table. I can only hope it will turn out as nice as your work of art.
When you spend some time to really compare the custom Empire to the VPI be sure to share your findings.
