Empire 598 problem

The Denon DL-103 of any model is a major mismatch on this arm. It's on the low mass side of things for the era, it was used with the Empire cartridges like the 4000 series, which were high compliance. This arm was made when Shure V15 Type III, Stanton 681 EEE-S, Empire 4000. and other similar MM and MI cartridges were dominant. When tracking forces were often 1 gram or barely above, and high compliance designs were most common and popular.
Good day. I also have Empire 398 with original tone arm. Currently have shure cart on. I bought it with a Dl-103 and haven't used that as of yet. Running into sherwood s 5000 ii. Curious if ortofon stm-72 step up would be a match for the denon cart. Thank you in advance.

The effective mass of the 598 arm is 15 grams, the 398 arm is 18 grams, they should be close for the Denon but adding a lead
weight to the headshell would get it in the 20 gram range the Denon prefers. But I think something else is going on. Could
you post a pic of the cartridge mounted and the record warp?

I have used a Denon 103 (not r) on 598 with no problems and also on a 698 with no groove jumping, but the 698 was too low
mass and the sound suffered.

I’m happy to report that after adjusting the tracking. Even the worst of my warped albums is playing fine. I’m glad because this lp is a limited edition that came from France and I did not want to send it back. Thanks again one and all.

I have an Empire 990 with a Adcom HC/VDH II cart. I haven't played it much over the last 6-9 months. I just started using it again. It mistracks wherever I place it on the record. It is pretty level, platter is 3/16" above base and the stylus is about 3/16" above the record. But it stays in one groove and repeats at the beginning and in the middle too. The dyna-lift lines up, stylus force is about 1 1/2 g and the anti-skating is set to 1 1/2g. What is wrong?

The only change I did was to make sure the 5 pin cable was attached. I held the post and pulled it out, then I held it again to plug it back in.
