Enabling Netflix on bluray player

Ok, bought on of those really inexpensive Magnavox bluray players last November on Black Friday. Never tried to use the wifi/internet connection till last weekend when the kids took the Wii to a friends house. The thing doesn't do Netflix! WTF ! Would it be possible that a firmware update might add netflix to this machine? I really don't want to spend more money on Vudu since we already have a Netflix account. BTW it's a Magnavox MBP5120F

Don't know...but I doubt it would be added by firmware if it's not promoted as NetFlix ready. My guess is there is more than just firmware involved in a NetFlix-capable player, but what that might be I don't know.

There are a lot of good 'internet' devices that will do netflix. Some for around $100. I use my 360 but I also have a WDTV Plus from Western Digital that does an good job. It was @ $100. Not a free fix but not horribly expensive.

If netflix hasent released an app for your Magnavox then your out of luck for netflix, I would check into the Magnavox sight to see if you have the latest firmware anyway. If you can do this through your player it will be simpler. Since your player does VUDU its not a hardware issue but more than likely a Licensing issue with netflix and Magnavox and or the model, Looking online I see there are alot of complaints and bad reviews over this issue for your model, With most saying they were misled during those black friday deals. If it were me and I only wanted netflix I would check into the ROKU box wich can be had fairly cheap at auction. I use a Boxee Box and love it but it cost more but has more features. Just about all the major brands of BD players include Netflix and DLNA these days but adding another set top box might be your cheapest solution. Good Luck.

There was a big stink about this. We wanted to give my wife's parents (both sets) this player for Christmas. I had looked it up on the internet and my wife dropped by and picked them up. She got what you have, the Magnavox MBP5120F. It only supports VUDU.

We took them back. Luckily, Wally World had the Magnavox MBP5130F, which is Netflix capable. Because of the confusion, they sold us the higher priced 130's for the same price as the 120's. The 130's do a great job with Netflix, my inlaws are happy.

You'll have to return the 120 and get the 130 for Netflix. There's no firmware upgrade from what I've read.
