T/A for a night!
I know that some folks will find this hard to believe, but in the early 70s, Transams were relatively rare and not often seen. 69 models were very low production (697), and 70, 71, and 72 models were still low production. You didn't really see very many up until 74, and by 76 they were much more common. There were only slightly over 10,000 made total for 1970, 1971, 1972 and 1973 all together.
In 1972, they would draw much more attention than a Corvette, and with the 72 455HO and 73 SD-455 models, they were very good performers.
In 1972 my older brother had a new white 72 455HO. (1286 total production) He lived out of town and came back home a month or so after he bought it. He came by my store on Saturday afternoon and drove the T/A. A girl that I had been trying to make time with (with little success) saw it in the parking lot and later that afternoon mentioned it to me. I didn't tell her that it was my brother's, and asked her did she like it. She said that "she was dying to ride in one".
I called back home and my brother was home. Of course, once he understood the situation, he came by my store a little before closing time and swapped cars with me, dropping off the T/A and picking up my GTO.
When the store closed, I pulled up front with the T/A and the girl about freaked! I asked her if she wanted to go out that night and the rest was history!
