I no longer post the exact price I paid for gear but if you look at the what the floorstanders go for currently and then saw a 50% off sale then you are in the ballpark of what I paid for the floor speakers and the bookshelf speakers combined.
BTW - For those following this thread My wife has still not noticed that I have moved the Pioneers into the HT setup. Not sure if that speaks to how many speakers I have moved through my HT setup or my wife's powers of observation...... : D

I've got a pair of the 41 bookshelves hooked up in my office right now. I was using pairs of 22s and 41s before my office moved, but two pair of speakers are overkill in the new space. In the first generation, the 41s got a good review in Stereophile and were much discussed, but there wasn't an equivalent of the size in the second generation lineup. My 22s are in the closet for now.

I had some for a while, I dont anymore but for what they went for new I had no trouble recommending them. They were a great value and I think were a great step for newbies in the hobby to test the waters. I hope they sold a ton of them. I think the minimus analogy is pretty spot on
I have 21s in the garage, and they do the trick! If I weren't so odd, they might be fine for endgame speakers. I have some Elac B6 speakers, and they are great performers, too. I've been playing them on top of my Vandersteens for a few weeks. Not quite as open and airy as the Vandersteens, but seem quite suited to the space. Andrew Jones has my respect.
I'm not really a fan of the FS52's, but the BS22's have my respect, especially for what I paid for them ($89 shipped new). I paired them with a Technics SA-5160 for a garage system (Chromecast Audio via AUX input) and they sound absolutely fantastic with that receiver. The bass that comes out of the 4" woofer is very impressive, and I think the cabinets are pretty sharp to (especially for the price).
For an inexpensive new bookshelf speaker, I don't think one could really do any better than the BS22.
If you want an upgrade, the Elac Debut B4 made by AJ is a better speaker all around (than the BS22) and not that much more expensive via online discounters. It was overshadowed by the B5 and B6, but the B4 definitely holds its own.

I found a pair of the bs21 at a thrift store before. They didn't live up to the hype imo, at the time I had a pair of NHT super one, and klipsch synergy bookshelfs (both thrift store fines as well). The BS21 was easily the worst of the 3, not saying they're bad, but the NHT and klipsch were both obviously better.

Totally agree- they were truly hideous as were the floorstanding bigger brothers. Sadly, I still own them- or at least my Dad does- I gave them to him to see if he could find some combination that worked.
That's funny. I passed on the centre at the time, glad I did in retrospect.

The PS-22s ARE NOT GREAT SPEAKERS. They are, however, GREAT CHEAP SPEAKERS. Jeez Louise guys - for the price of admission one would be hard pressed to do better. I use my pair as computer speakers - WONDERFUL!!! No bass, but great dynamics and a very coherent speaker - all of one piece.
Exactly and that is why I compared them to the Minimus 7's. As a matter of fact I bet that 20-30 years from now people will be on this site talking about the "vintage" Andrew Jones Pioneer speakers they picked up and many people will be chiming in (just like people do with the 7's) about what a great deal they were "back in the day" and their sound could not be beat FOR THE PRICE that they sold for.
The more important thing is that it has provided me the opportunity to move the Von Schweikert's back to my Music room where they sound great paired up with my recently acquired Yamaha DSP-A1000.
Not sure where folks are getting that the BS22's have no bass. For their size, they can crank out bass better than a lot of 5" or 6" bookshelf woofers I've heard. They also seem more than willing to over-extend themselves, too. For less than $100 they are the best thing going IMO. Just don't play them too loud with bass heavy tracks.

I picked up some B21s that my Dad handed off to me the other day. For grins hooked them up for the first time to a NAD system with a NAD 2700 amp from a garage sale find
just purchased a couple days before and I was blown away at the amount of sound coming out of a small speaker. They love some power!

People keep saying nothing in the price range was comparable and that is hogwash. Polk had several models before and since that easily match the sound of any of the Jones speak and they were built far better as well.
When I heard the Elacs the first time I was like WTF? They were ok but hardly worth the hype.
And to compare them to the Minimus 7 is silly since the Minimus is so much smaller. A speaker the size of the bookcase models can easily sound like them. The M7s were truly something different since almost nothing that small back then sounded as good and was as cheap as they were. Hell M7s and M7ws are selling for more money than they did new.

As I read back through this thread I am kind of taken by some of the passionate opinions on both sides about these speakers. Your mileage may vary as they say but I am a vote in the positive for them even though I recognize that they are not better than any of my primary speakers.
