Both generations sound similar. I like the look of gen 2.

1st gen tweeter is masonite face with paper dome, 2nd gen is plastic face phenolic tweeter with a large decorative ring and the new EPI block letter with wave logo, both raised painted gold (the “ gold ring” tweeter). Gen 1 also has the old EPI logo on the grill and back label; gen 2 has the later logo.

Human Speakers is a great source for sure.
