Erratic motor Audio-Technica AT-LP120-USB?

Here is the big surprise: If you read your instruction manual, you are not suppose to run your table with the platter off!

I've been driving an AT PL120 (pre-USB) for about 4 years now. About a 200 headshell changes (cartridge swapper) and arm adjustments and never a whimper. Dead on speed and decent to good sounds.

If the OP has a bad one (and I think we can all agree that he does?) - he needs to make the seller take it back and send him another or refund his money. As long as it's all at their expense, what's the deal? My guess is that number two will be OK - let's see :scratch2:

I'll put my 120 up against all sorts of "vintage" decks that can have all sorts of issues. Is it the best table ever built :smoke: of course not. Is it a good workhorse and 78 spinner - mine is. Maybe the OP will get a decent one also? Let's wait and see.

Hey so does anyone here know how to take the motor out of the TT. I have my TT all opened up and i can't get the motor out of it like i don't even know how it's connected. Pls help. Oh and also, maybe how to fix the problem too? I have the same exact issue.
 
I'm sorry I can't help you too much with removal of the motor. I would assume you remove the platter, and the plate underneath which would give you access to the screws holding the motor in. But you would have to remove the bottom of the turntable to disconnect leads and physically remove it.

I would say the solution is to find a replacement motor for it. Perhaps contact Audio Technica support to see if they can supply one as you don't see parts for these typically for sale elsewhere.
