ESS AMT1D restoration-pictures

Hey, a big thanks to all that gave me the :thmbsp: on this project. I appreciate the comments. If there are any of you die-hard ESS AMT1 or AMT1x owners in need of a grille recover or refinishing tips, I'll be more than happy to assist you.. The older style grilles are a HUGE PITA to recover. The sequence is the key. I've done 3 pairs so far, with great results.

Gonzo, I could use some tips on the recovering you mention. I have a pair of AMT-1's that I purchased while living in Sacramento back in the mid-eighty's. I refoamed the passives a few years ago and put them back in their original mfg. boxes. Not sure what the drivers might look like after all these years in storage. When I took them out to refoam the passives they looked pretty good. I noticed recently that Parts Express carries the OEM replacement drivers, passives and HEIL transformers for both the 10" and 12" AMT models (stamped ESS). Very reasonably priced as well. The covers on the AMT-1's I mention are fabric on all four sides and the top. The frames are some form of composite or plastic. It looks like keeping them "square" would be the challenge. Your comments and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. Scott

This is a 5 year old thread!:scratch2:
I haven't heard a peep from Gonzo in about that long.
I would assume the drivers need a refoam-if they are original.
OCS can do the job reasonably-which I would recommend as they have narrow gaps, and more then a few people here have messed them up.
I would recap, rewire the crossover and reseal the cabinet.
Should be good to go.

I have been deperately searching for a replacement set of grills for the amt1 speakers my father left for me. They are amazing. I want to make them whole again. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The original AMT-1 used a 10" paper cone and AMT-1a used a 12" paper cone. The AMT-1b through 1d used the 12" poly cone.

I don't think they are poly... Coated paper..look like poly .. According to ESS
