Those To-3's are not transistors. They are SCR's or Triacs used in tweeter protection ckt
Yeah, they're basically, IIRC, made to "crowbar" the tweeter output of the crossover, under overload conditions. A big reduction in tweeter output under excess power conditions, to avoid blowing the diaphragms in the (rather fragile, IME) ST350 tweeters.
For home use, the tweeter protector circuits are probably legitimately optional; for pro/PA/musical instrument use, I would ABSOLUTELY leave them IN PLACE.
