Experiences dealing with LP Gear

Hello All,

I recently placed an order with LP Gear for one of their vivid belts and a couple of spare styli for Ortofon 2m red.

After not seeing any status on my order for a couple of days, I sent them an e-mail and got a response back saying they had with address verification and could not process. So after I sent back a response and verified my address.

Now, I'm still trying to get a status on my order and also get help recovering my password for their website, but so far no answer to any of my e-mails. These guys do not seem to be very responsive. I was wondering if anyone here has had the same problem with LP Gear.

Thanks,

I did not have communication issues with them (about a year ago). And the order was shipped promptly. I think it is a one man store so anything might happen.

Did they charge your card? If not, you may have to just place the order again with correct address info.

I had similar problems with them. They wouldn't respond to any emails. I had to send in a fake order to get their attention about my first order. They seem to respond to emails when it suits them.

Hello,
I had some difficulty getting a correct belt for my Maplenoll table, but after a couple of emails I received a response for return authorization. Then when three weeks went by I tried to reach them again. It took an additional two emails to get someone's attention. They apoligized for the lack of communication and explained that they were temporarily out of stock and should have kept me informed. I believe the hectic season combined with CES prevented them from responding promptly.
They seem to be a good company that needs better communications.

If you search the forums, you'll find a great many commentaries on LPGear. Some people have had no problems with them, but many others complain of a chronic lack of responsiveness.

Communication with LPGear is hit and miss in my experience but the quality of their products I've purchased from them is first rate.

There are a couple of dealers/service-providers that don't do email well but are otherwise very good. Sometimes a phone call is the best bet. For my part, I've always received my order from them promptly and never had a reason to email them. I believe that it's a one-man operation so I'm sure that there are times when he gets a bit overloaded with things that need done.

Has anybody ever been able to talk to lpgear on the phone? I know I tried calling them and never had anybody answer. I left a message that wasn't returned, too.

Hmm... I was just about to order the $20 "audiophile" headshell. Sounds like I am not going to get ripped off, but it may and/or may not show up anytime soon.

Poor communication is frustrating. Given the online consensus, i am probably not the only person hesitant to order.

I may end up ordering from them but it now seems worth a bit more shopping around first. I just want something around $20 of decent construction to try some older carts I have - the Stanton 500 and 600 and the Empire 2000e iii. Now that the notion of testing those out has crossed my mind I just want to do it -not get caught up in some long drawn out mysterious and confusing drama.

I've ordered numerous times from LPGear with no hassles, but every time a thread like this comes up, it makes me less willing to order from them. They (he?) really needs to fix this problem.

I have stated before the one issue I had so I won't repeat. But, even though they email back sporadically, I would use them again. They do ship quickly and the prices are right.

Thanks guys, I found the same ones on eBay for $12.95 so I ordered 2.

Glad for me that I saw this right before I ordered.

Back to LPGear - I think that good communication is at least of equal importance to prompt service. I recently ordered a Denon cart from another popular vendor. The website did not indicate it was out of stock but I did get a call with an apology and tsunami related explanation. They said it would be here by a certain date and it showed up a few days before that. Sure, it would have been nice to have it show up the day after I ordered but at least I wasn't left wondering.

I've had similar issues with LPGear but they always come through. There are a couple of guys like this - Ultimate Cables is the same way. Excellent products and excellent prices, but communication is all but non-existent.

I placed an order with Ultimate Cables last week and haven't heard a peep from them since; yet, I know my order will show up sometime within the next week or so. I just don't worry about it anymore although it used to bug me with both these guys.

I ordered a Nagaoka MP-200 cart from them. I didn't have any issues. I do recall the status took a while to update on the order, but it had been shipped.

I have placed numerous orders with LP Gear over the last several years. I never had any trouble receiving any of the items I ordered.

The only time I had email contact from LP Gear is when they notified me they did not have a Ortofon 2M Blue in stock. I was given an offer of a Red body with a Blue stylus at a reasonable discount for my trouble. I accepted and the offer and the order was shipped immediately. If I had to make a complaint, the Blue should have shown out of stock. But I was notified very quickly and everything was wrapped up in a few back and forth emails.

We can only go by our own experiences, but so far, I have not had any trouble or concerns with LP Gear.

Just my 2 cents for whatever it may be worth.
