Facebook -- your thoughts?

Like texting, right? :naughty:

Okay...I joke, I joke. I wouldn't want to talk to me either.

:D

Actually that IS a lot more personal. The whole world can't read it. Yeah yeah I know all about the only your friends can see it. I don't know how many stupid people she made me add that I didn't even know. Plus people I used to know and could care less if I ever saw or talked to them.

For a lot of people it's a contest to see how many friends you can say you have. Whatever.

Yeah, I hear you...just a shared observation about our conversation the other night and the fact that the younger generation seemed to be captivated by texting and online social circles these days. When we were kids we had to pick up a landline phone to call a friend. Not too many folks could afford cellular phones in the early 80's and the internet was a decade away. Now everyone has them. My 11 year old neice has a cell phone.....I think I had a walkie talkie at that age that had a couple hundred yard range and that's about as far as it went until I was out of the house on my own which was my own landline in my dorm room.

Facebook is fine but it cuts into my AK time. :D

I'm glad I grew up in a time where you had to be in a house or other civilized area to use a telephone. It seems there's no escape, sometimes!

I wouldn't have entered the witness protection program just to blow it all on Facebook, now would I. BTW, I heard that 20% of recent divorces have Facebook as a contribuing factor.

Sorry I guess I completely miss the point to Facebook Myspace and I really don't get Twitter unless you actualy have something worth while to say.

My kids are on Facebook all the time and their computers are always full of spyware and viruses. I can't prove there is a connection, but since that site is where they spend most of their time, I am suspicious of it. Anyone else have similar experiences?

I am inclined to agree. In fact, I will go further and say all three exemplify why I don't "get" the 21st century.

A cousin I am close to never responds to emails. I finally broached the subject. She apologized, but suggested Facebook as "it's a great way to keep in touch!!!!!!!!!!"

As opposed to email?:scratch2:

We are becoming The Borg. Slowly, but steadily....

Seems some people post up , " Im going to the store now".....like...we really don't care.:boring:

I hide all that stupid Mafia War sh$t and other non-sense....most people would fare better if they went out and did charity work instead of wasting away their lives....but this is 2010 in America, so I guess it's normal.

I've had my FB page for a year or so, and I've been contacted by many, many people I had lost touch with, and it's been (thus far) a great experience! One of our dogs is a Facebook product, as he was mentioned by an old friend with whom I hadn't talked in 20 years. As it happens she lives near us, and we agreed to adopt the dog. The old friend had found him as a stray, and couldn't find any owner, and already has too many rescue dogs. This chihuahua-French bulldog mix wasn't in good enough shape to have passed muster at the animal shelter, and would have been put down. So Facebook gave this dog a second chance...

Charles

You gave the dog a second chance. Not facebook. I'm sure the same thing would have happened if they posted it in the regular paper.

I refuse...

The people I want to talk to have my number, or I have theirs... If I wanted to talk to old people in my life, I wouldn't have moved on....

I got married to my high school sweetheart because of facebook. The site is OK i guess....:smoke:

A bet that's a great story. That almost happened to me with a site called Frapper (friend mapper). I could write a book about that experience, it was really interesting, not at all heartbreaking and changed both of our lives simply because she found me on a little social networking site.
