Favorite Potato Chip!

Rome,

We expect a full report on whatever you find since many of the brands mentioned are only available in limited areas.

No potato chips in the house now so I hope to experience some vicariously.

Thanks.

Ahhh Robie!
You got it my friend. As soon as I polish off the last bag, probably by next weekend as I have already demolished the first one. :D
I will try one of the other brands & let you guys know.

Yea, go out & treat yourself to a tasty bags of some good old spuds.

Utz fan here. Get em in the big gold can if possible. We used to get a can every week at the York PA Farmers market. Had them with home made ice cream every Sunday night. Big meal was after church instead of lunch. Really like Martin's Kettle Cooked in the red and white bag also!
Regards,
Jim

Hi Jim!
Yea, the Utz & Martin brands seem to be popular, but I don't think they are sold locally. I will have to keep me eyes peeled for them as well. :thmbsp:

Wise "All-Natural" Potato Chips. The industry standard.

Ahhh TA!
The Wise company also sold one the the best tasting IMHO Chesse Doodles back in the day. I have not seen a Wise brand bag of chips in a very long time. I guess they went out of business here in North Texas.

If I see a bag of the chips you mentioned, believe you me I will grab them. They should be very good.

Sterzings
A local company based in Burlington Iowa. THey used to only deliver within a hundred or so miles of the factory. It is rumored that people would drive for quite a distance to find a store that has them. Growing up in SE Iowa it was the chip of choice.

Hi Bry!
I am having a hard time keeping up with all of the different brands out there on the spud!

Thanks for the info. This is another chip out of my area, but would like to try.

When I go to Woodstock and the NW area I always like to pick up some chips or shoestring potato by Jays. Always like them. You occasionally see Jays in Iowa but not as commonly.
Rome not everyone likes them. They can be a bit greasy. My brother in law used to make the joke he kept a bag in his truck for winter emergencies. If he got stranded he could use them to start a fire to stay warm. Not sure if they still are, but they used to be cooked in lard.

Bought a bag of the Kettle Three Cheese Tuscan at Costco the other day, just had to try something different. When I first opened the bag they were pungent to say the least. After nibbling on them they have gotten addictive, hard to put the bag down and if you know the size of the bags at Costco that is a very bad thing.:D

Bryana,

I know exactly what you mean. My favorites, "Kitchen Cooked" have what my wife and other previous posters have described as the "cold grease" taste. I prefer to describe them as tasting like french fries or "shoe string" potatoes by Jay's or Pik Nik. Either you like that taste in a chip or you don't. They also are not all that salty. Jay's Kettle Cooked are similar but not as good.

Regardless, check out Kitchen Cooked, if you can find them. While they are produced south of Peoria, their website says they are available all the way from Central Illinois to the Iowa border and all the way up to Galena in NW Illinois.

Ahhh CF!
I betta stay away from those chips then. :D

Ran across a bag of Mrs. Fisher's at Woodman's in Kenosha. They are made in Rockford, IL. I liked them a lot.

IMO, they are good thick chips that would fall into the "cold grease" category. To me they taste like Pik Nik Shoestring Potatoes. Sounds horrible but I like chips of that ilk. Must be the trans fats.

Utz Old English Style Kettle Classics Salt and Malt Vinegar.

Must be my English lineage, love that malt vinegar on my 'chips'

Hi Robie!
Sounds like those are some good tastin spuds!
I remember the can of shoestring taters in my growing up years. Just did not get use to the taste though. I guess they lacked the good stuf (trans fats)!
:D

Hi Birddog!
Yea, Utz chips have showed up like the Cape Cod brand. I don't have the Utz's here in Big D, but sometime this week I will get a bag of Cape Cod chips.

Rome

Cape Cod chips of course. ;)

Hi Masterlu!
Yea, can't wait to grab a bag later this week. I found a retailer in the area that carries them. Hope they have a No or Low Salt flava though. If not, I will try one that I may like with not to much salt.
