Favorite Vintage Receiver Brand - Why?

im using a hanimex coral a-550, i believe its 70's and its 50wpc
love the sound, i dont even need to use the loudness for optimum bass response

Azri, I see this is your first post! Welcome to AK.

I'd love to see that receiver if you have a digital camera and a few spare minutes.

Advent. Innovative designs- variety of shapes and sizes- all attractive and functional. All have sounded smooth as silk to me. I love my diminutive Response 450s. It used to live on a bookshelf- and probably will again, somewhere- but right now I'm digging it because it's got a good phono stage. It's dead easy to haul around on garage sale trips for testing record players and speakers.

I also had a long love affair with a Model 300. It was the heart of my favorite system ever, my main and only system for years. At first it anemically powered a pair of Klipsch KG2s. I was offered a deal on a H/K Citation Twelve and I decided to use the 300 as a tuner/preamp only. That was a truly magical combination. It outperformed the several other preamps I've had the pleasure to know. I think that's a pretty good trick for a piece of gear that's primarily a receiver. Sadly, it was stolen from my apartment- probably by someone who knew what they were looking for as not much else was taken. Shortly thereafter my H/K twelve blew chunks- almost like an old couple dying within weeks of each other.

I now have 3 Kenwood receivers from the early 70s to the early 00s and I just like the way they sound, and their controls. Kenwood may be more of a redheaded stepchild when it comes to audio than the grander names but they work for me. Plus they're just so damn affordable.

When I add up the value of the 3 receivers it's somewhere around $1,400. I've paid $30 and they all work. Kenwood certainly has a degree of reliability then. :thmbsp:

YMMV of course.

Yep, I like Kenwood too. Favorite would be Yamaha though. Clean, un-messed-with sound and great looks as well as reliability.
