Just heard this on BBC Radio 2, about a new beard of dangerous (caterpillar):yikes: roaming around the United Kingdom!

I don’t know about Mermaids the only thing I’ve seen are sharks and turtles here in Bournemouth its very rare to see a Mermaid swimming off the shores of Bournemouth beach these days.

There's 5 very easy, very simple steps to see a mermaid. guaranteed...

First-

1. Find an ocean (or at least a sea).

2. Find a boat to take on said ocean/sea.

3. Find a big bottle of rum.

4. Drink the rum.

5. Make pirate noises.

Then, you'll see the mermaids.

note- after you drink the rum, taking the boat out is optional. No matter, if it's good rum, you'll see the mermaids whether you hit the sea or not.

Sounds and looks fairly similar to a specie that have here in the southern US. It's known (at least colloquially) as a Packsaddle or Saddleback caterpillar... One touch and wherever the skin is contacted, the effect is like being set on liquid fire. Nasty, nasty little devils.

Thanks mate, for the heads up on that I wonder if it flew over from overseas? I mean it’s the first time I’ve heard of a dangerous type of caterpillar. I‘m going to have to remind myself each day if I see a caterpillar do not touch it!

Yep, have had ONE painful run in w/a Packsaddle-if you're smart, you WON'T have 2-About the same as the time I reached in a mailbox & grabbed a handful of Wasp's Nest...Sumbiches liked to have eat me alive...<grin>

They probably were exported to England from somewhere else. They don't look all that much like the ones I'm familiar with color-wise, but there is a passing similarity. This is the guy that I've run into... literally!

They're fond of shrubs, and shady places so it's easy to put your hand where one is, and end up regretting it for days.

Its wild such a small creature can make one’s day really miserable. Look but don’t touch!
 
Caterpillars can be alleviated w/ large & repeated doses of size 13 Wide shoes coming down vigorously on them...<grin>
