February 6th-Chicago-Area Get Together, Anyone Interested?

I hope somebody took pictures so I can see what I missed. Packing for a sooner than expected move took away my Saturday but I missed you guys and thought about it all day. I really wanted to hear Dan's DQ-28s.

Hey John you are not moving from that uber-cool loft are you? I enjoyed viewing that thread on matching systems to decor...

Robie and Colette,

Thank you for hosting a great party.
It was fun to hear the different synergies of the gear.
So many great people in the group you bring together.

Thanks

Tom

Tom,

That Cayin is a great sounding amp! Thanks for bringing it.

More importantly, Welcome to AK!

Hey Tom! It was great talking to you. Your gear ain't too shabby either. :thmbsp: Congrats on that first post. :D

I'm partial to my little Eico of course, and I really enjoyed hooking it up to the smaller Klipsch speakers. Who's were they again (thanks :thmbsp:)?
But by far the best two pairings of the day IMNSHO, were Mikes Dynaco Mk 3 and Bob's Rega speakers, and Tom's Cayenne amp matched up with Bob's B&Ws. WOW!

I also thought your Eico sounded great with SWL3600's Klipsch.

I haven't thanked everyone who helped so much actually doing the work while I was hosting but you know who you are and I really appreciate it. I know I'm forgetting lots of folks, but thanks Clay, Clyde and Jim! :thmbsp:

And a special thanks to Brian for checking my cartridge alignment. That effort warrants the Chiquita cha cha!

I never made it down, John. I sprained my arch or heel or something. Cannot walk without crutches right now. Have NO idea how I did this. Just started to hurt and then slowly got progressively worse. My speakers are still in my truck. My neighbor is coming over later to take them back to the listening room. I really regret missing this. I really wanted to hear some serious tube gear not to mention the DQ-28's with different combos.

Yeah, it's time to go to a neighborhood where I can walk around. The view from my new place looks like your avatar picture, but even higher up. It's still going to be mid century, just more 'modern' to go with it. Do you live downtown?

Sorry to miss you yesterday...I was looking forward to hearing the Sansui.

at this one, I stayed in the background mostly, listening to others who know more than me.

Hey, Keith it was great meeting you. We may have all seemed like we know each other but it's largely because we've met each other at this event in the past.

Thanks to the knowledgeable folks that show up each year, I am reminded how much there is to know.

Shucks, it wasn't much effort, Bob. But at the CAS meeting you heard what having the azimuth correct does...

Looking forward to seeing you at some of the weekly Saturday morning audiophile breakfasts. Everyone else is welcome, too (email me for info).

And by the way, thanks again to you and Colette for everything. Great to see everyone.

Well the new place sounds great.

Me? I live about five miles south of the WI border and the view from my window does not, unfortunately, look like the view from Hotel 71 (which is where I was when I shot that image).

...as for the Sansui, it sat on the table all day because all the other gear was sounding so good! There was just not enough time, and I ended up leaving at about 8:15.

...Next time.

Sorry I couldn't make it guys. Transportation was a bit of a problem (still is). Sucks, i was really looking forward to it. How many attended?

Evan

At one point we had 34 but that included my daughter and wife.

We missed you Evan!

While HandyHamlet's fantastic pics are here http://www.audiokarma.org/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=63806, here are a few more from my friend Gary (click to enlarge):

Clay and his Paradigms.JPG Fisherdude and his pristine cool Fisher 800 receiver and Paradigm Studios. I missed this setup but heard it sounded great. The Fisher sounded great when I did hear with another setup.

Clays Paradigms and SWL3600s Klipsch.JPG Fisherdude's Fisher and Pardigms and SWL3600's Klipsch. I missed this too but liked the Klipsch with ekmanning's little Eico.

Zenithman1, sorry we missed you.

I'll be paying better attention next time:yes: Sorry I missed your great get together. Thanks for the pics! Looks like a lot of fun! I hope to have some cool stuff to bring next time, lookin' at gettin' a Sansui 1000 right now:thmbsp:

Sorry Glenn. Yeah, it's tough when there is so much great stuff. That's why I stick to hostin' and appoint someone in charge of setup in each room. (That's the toughest job anyway.) I try to tell everyone to make sure your stuff gets heard but time is limited. Choices on what to play next are left to consensus. ;)
