Felt Diskwasher not cutting it… Looking for RCM advice

I got a vevor ultrasonic tank and a rotating record rack a couple of months ago. Set me back around 200 bucks or so.
Still a greenhorn in this and trying to learn. But already I can say that sometimes I get "knock my socks off" results with this method!

But I also think that to get the best results you should rinse in distilled water and vacuum dry after the us cleaner. I Use a diyed vacuum wand with a homemade rotation platform (built on an old lazy susan tray) for this. I also made a water trap so I can use our domestic vacuum cleaner for this.

Of course this setup is not as user friendly as the dedicated us record cleaning machines but it's the one that I can afford. And I can use the tank to clean other stuff too.

Get the Pro-ject RCM, not the Okki Nokki. Platter is a liability not an asset .

As a recent owner of the Pro-ject VC-S2, I find it has a couple of design flaws. The wand is rather short and may not dry the record all the way to the label. Also, when taking off the wand and running the vacuum without it - which the manual recommends to do after every cleaning session - it spreads liquid through the exhaust hole.

I have no experience with the Okki Nokki, but the latest version comes with a large and a small platter. Also, the wand is switchable between 12", 10" and 7". The Pro-Ject may be a little cheaper even if you buy the additional 7" wand, though.

Nothing wrong with a Nitty-Gritty when in good shape. If you buy an old one though, expect it to need some work. Most folks sell used ones because they have issues..

+1 for @MisterDK comments. I have worn out 3 NG machines. The weak point in their design is the plastic vacuum chamber. After so many heat cycles, it will eventually crack and fall apart. NG is back in biz now so you can buy replacement vacuum units for machines that need replacements.

So… update. I found a great deal on a (mostly) complete, very lightly used Okki Nokki on eBay. Works great.

I’m finding that a large amount of the debris on used records is greasy fingerprints, and that a small amount of some form of detergent will be necessary to break it up. I haven’t landed on anything yet, nor tried anything. Figured I’d ask here first.

My plan is to still get something like a Vevor ultrasonic to do the initial degreasing with, possibly with a detergent in the solution…. Rinse with a distilled water and then hit it with the RCM. Once done, I will get some of the aforementioned sleeves and put them in the special sleeve which will indicate it has been completely cleaned.

Also, great advice on the Zerostat…. That has made a massive difference with regard to overall pops and buzzes.
