First a New Yamaha, Now a New Luxman!

I'll bet the Sansui tube gear is made in China and is simply an old "name" on some Chinese gear. Like Marantz. Makes me wonder the same thing about the Pioneer and Luxman. My guess is the Yamaha is made in Japan as Yamaha has survivied relatively well through the years. Pioneer seems to have, as well. But, Luxman has gone belly-up a couple of times. Not sure about Sansui.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit if the Sansui tube is Chinese, but there are some excellent tube amps coming out of China as well. I heard some real good ones on my last trip to Shanghai.

You have seen the new Sansui tube amps, right? There're more tube amps listed on Sansui's global website.

I'm not a tube guy, but am glad to see some audio come out of Sansui. I don't know if the current iteration of Sansui retains any of the same minds as in the past. I would really love to see the AU series solid state integrateds get updated or just rereleased.

They look sweeeeet to me. I have toyed with the idea of a high powered integrated amp if/when my 25+ year old Yammy power amp gives up the ghost. The Luxman looks as nice as the big Music Fidelity models. It will be interesting to see how they are treated by the audio press or even if they will bother sending demo units out to them.

I've read a review of one of the Luxman line-up,in the English Hi-Fi mag 'Hi-Fi World'
I think the model was the 507.
They loved it.

Sansui would be in good company,if they were merely rebadgeing an existing Chinese product,or manufacturing in their own plant in mainland China.
A lot of others are doing it.
I wonder where the Luxmans are manufactured?:scratch2:

The Luxmans are made in Japan. I think even during their "dark period" they were still manufactured in Japan. A quote from the On a Higher Note website:

"Since 1925, Luxman are not about mass produced products designed in Japan, then assembled in China from generic parts. Rather Luxman are designed in Japan, then each part is carefully tested & evaluated. Many parts are custom made for them which really does make these designs special. Even the transformers are made in Japan to their specification. Luxman select the color paint used on the resistors (to identify value & tolerance) based on extensive listening tests. The chassis are carefully tuned, both vibration and resonance are carefully controlled; they perform like a musical instrument. Finally assembly & testing is all carried out in Japan. "
