First New CD Player in 30 Years - Onkyo C-7030

The Onkyo DXC390 seems pretty popular, too. I'm glad someone is still making new CD players/changers...

It's a very natural nonfaiging sound. As you improve the interconnect cables the sound also improves.
May I suggest Morrow audio cables?
The MA2 and above is great.;)

Indigo Girls. Again, an album that has been played forever. This copy is from 1991, if I had to guess. Not like it is a reissue or a remix. I am hearing more detail than ever before. Damn. What a pleasant surprise. With all the combos of equipment, I never had a decent DAC in the chain.

Which reminds me... Rumours is next.

EDIT: Need to replace this disc. Fatally scratched.

Sometimes the scratched CDs can be polished using various car based products, unless there`s seriously major gouges in the surface.

I wanted to buy a used DVD player for playing CDs. Tried three CDs, it would not play one of them. All my portable players that I've been buying on eBay for $20 a pop, play this disc just fine.

Ever since I got my Onkyo C-7030 a couple years ago, I've been enjoying CDs so much more than I used to. The only downside is that unfortunately there are so many harsh sounding CDs out there, and if I raise my volume past 2 my ears bleed :D

Wow....they still have the DX-C390? That unit was out when I was a rep for Onkyo 22 years ago. It was great when they worked. lol Seems like the 5 disc DVD/CD changers had the most issues with the drive mechanism, though.

Just ordered one. I have been wanting another player and been looking at Marantz and Rotel, but didn't want to send that much. Never really liked Onkyo, never owned any, but the price is right. It's going in my second system anyway.

How do you like it?

The Onkyo CD changer was really solidly build. Same with a Yamaha CD changer (feeding an external Cambridge Audio DAC) I encountered at a Head-Fi meeting many years ago.

Nonetheless, I would recommend staying away from changers simply because of the added mechanical complexity involved. But that's just me. As the saying goes, YMMV.

Onkyo changers have been pretty good to me. I've had two DXC-340s and they were good sounding, dependable machines. I still have one in reserve in the event that my daily driver fails.

Currently, I have an Integra changer in my main system and it is terrific. It uses the Wolfson and sounds as good as any single- disc player I've come across.

Still, I am tempted to pick up a C-7030 just for the cost/performance factor.

Well Amazon delivered it today, just did a temporary hook up in the main system and playing the first CD.
So right out of the box, with no burn in, no tweaking, it really sounds very good. Very smooth with a wide Soundstage, much less digital sounding than my Sony.
The built quality looks and feel very good also. I am sure it will get even better with some hours on it.
If it does, I don't think you can get better for the price I paid $230.

I bought one of the C-7030's for the second system. I used it first in my main system to compare it with my Marantz CD-6006. The CD-6006 is better, it should being more twice as much. The Onkyo is one of those pieces that will surprise those that never heard it before. With how much Marantz CD players are going for now I'd go for the 7030 if I needed a new CD player.
