First New CD Player in 30 Years - Onkyo C-7030

I just semi-retired mine. It has served me well for 15 years or so, but I saw a shiny object. I'm planning on keeping mine as the first piece in an upstairs system. It's a good device. Seems like it should be more expensive.

Well I sent mine back, not because i didn't like it or it wasn't great for the price, but the dac in my Rotel RC1572 mk2 is better when I compared them, so I decided to just spring for a Cambridge CXC transport.
Also the black didn't match too well with the other silver units.

I keep thinking about that same Rotel preamp and just selling off the BillD Carver C-1 preamp and Schiit Modi MB. Something about a new shiny toy, I guess.

I have the 7030 in my unheated garage connected to a Nikko NR 1050. Didn’t realize it was so well thought of. MaybeI should treat it better!
I have the DX-C390 (6 disc) on my living room system - not my main listening system - connected to a SX-750 and Advent Baby IIIs. My only beef is that sometimes a CD will jump out of the tray when it is rotating and jam the mechanism.

It's a very good sounding reasonably priced preamp, it has all the features you could want, both digital and analog.
It has more inputs than my McIntosh C47, both digital and analog. I had the RC 1570 before in that system for like 10 trouble free years, so I upgraded to the RC1572 mk2.
I uses a Texas Instrument dac which is pretty nice, and gives full read out of bitrates. The bluetooth is also excellent.

I wanted to go with the Audiolab, but the slot loading scares me. I just keep thinking of a CD being stuck in there.

So I found a copy of Bon Jovi Greatest Hits. I know... Gave it a listen a few minutes ago. Man, this must be a newer CD and must be remixed. By whom and for what purpose I cannot fathom. So bad I had to post. These recordings through Heresy literally makes my ears hurt. It sounds like my ears need to pop. Or water in your ears. So damn loud and compressed into a solid wall of noise. Fatiguing? At volume you cannot make it through a single tune. Wow. What the hell?

I have a DX-C390 that sounds fine and has operated flawlessly. It looks nice. Some of the changers I've had sounded like cement mixers mechanically but this one is reassuringly smooth and quiet. The market longevity of this model is noteworthy. I can only speak of my own experience but it seems Onkyo got something right with this one. I rarely find a need for a changer anymore but it works fine playing just one disc. I'd like to give a C-7030 a whirl if I find one for the right price but I've accumulated a number of worthy optical disc players of all types over the years.

Found the CDs in various stashes. Some I know I sought out. Others, no idea how they got here. Tossed anything that was CDR or otherwise copied. Limited shelf life.

So now, what is the best soft case or folio to store these in and have reasonable access? Most of the hard cases are long gone, and a PITA anyway. I had a 200 CD Sony changer for a long time that accelerated their demise. How to best store and access maybe 200-300 CDs that I want to play?

When these were "put up" I cleaned them all and stacked between coffee filters. They stayed clean.
Look for "CD Sleeves". I remember needing some, but it was quite a while ago, but they were cool. Saved a ton of space.

I did! Free at my local dump!!
Well Amazon delivered it today, just did a temporary hook up in the main system and playing the first CD.
So right out of the box, with no burn in, no tweaking, it really sounds very good. Very smooth with a wide Soundstage, much less digital sounding than my Sony.
The built quality looks and feel very good also. I am sure it will get even better with some hours on it.
If it does, I don't think you can get better for the price I paid $230.

Hi there,

I'm looking for a new CD player and found this on Amazon.com. I'm interested in it.

Before I purchase it, I want to know:

1. I'm using a DVD player (Panasonic DVD-S53) to play back my CDs using COAX output (setup the output as PCM 48kHz) to my receiver (Onkyo TX-8050, which support up to 96kHz/24 bit)

2. My question is: If I use this Onkyo C-7030 and my same Onkyo receiver to play back CDs, can I get higher quality sound?

Thanks.

Highly unlikely.

I picked up a Onkyo C7030 on marketplace for 30 dollars. The seller had a yamaha surround receiver with 4 speakers and a sony dvd player for sale also. I was only interested in the onkyo. When we met he had all the equipment with him. And asked if I wanted it. Said he didn’t know if any of it worked and let me have it all for 30 bucks. To my surprise everything worked fine! I felt bad about getting it so cheap so I sent the guy an extra 50 bucks. I’ll flip the other stuff but the 7030 will be mine forever! It’s a sweet player for sure. Here’s a list of what all he sold me.
Yamaha model HTR-5570 receiver, 4 Yamaha speakers model NS-A480, Sony CD/DVD player model DVP-NS315, Onkyo CD MP3 model C-7030 and some instructions/owner manuals.

I purchased my Onkyo C-7030 CD player from a local pawn shop for $80 to go with my Onkyo HT system. Never really used it in that system much, so when I started building my new 2 channel system in a dedicated room I decided to give it a shot there. It will stay. I have both digital and analog outputs hooked up and prefer the Onkyo's built-in DAC over the way my Cambridge Audio 851N Streamer Network/DAC process it.

I have always liked Onkyo products. Restored my Onkyo TA-2080 cassette deck that I bought as a teen to include in the system for eye-candy and nostalgia. it is a beast!!!

BTW, the Cambridge came after this photo.

I got mine at least 7 years ago still going well. When I got mine they were $179 on Amazon and would go on sale as low as $149.

For years I used it every night for long guided meditations and for headphone listening.

In fact my is old enough it has the Wolfson DAC in it.

In fact I considered buying another one for myself to keep on hand and one for my dad.
