Craig,
You know, THIS is why I appreciate your posts so much!
I HAVE been way off on the AC balance issue. The article, after I went back and re-read it after reading your last post, does indeed basically outline your method for AC balance. Since I've been measuring DC at the plates :nono: rather than AC, I'll bet I've never actually had the thing balanced for AC!!
When I first skimmed the methods for AC balance, I got it set in my head that equal DC voltage on the plates meant equal AC coming in. Wow. Just one of those simple little things that slips by but seems SO blatantly obvious once someone is nice enough to point out your error...
Tonight I'll set the meter for AC rather than DC and I'm betting I'll be in for a surprise!
mac,
I sure appreciate the kind words! This thing has been a bear-and I'm still not out of the woods just yet, but I think I see a clearing ahead. What kind of pre-amp and what kind of Conns are you working on?
Hey Douglas,
I think I recognize you from another audio site-one which is shamefully guilty of petty and egocentric bickering rather than thoughtful and respectful discussion and sharing of knowledge. If so, I rarely posted there myself but always enjoyed and learned a great deal from your posts. I look forward to continuing to do so here! :thmbsp:
Your comments are much appreciated as well. I've never tried to pass myself off as anything other than an enthusiast with more stubborn determination than smarts, so your kind words mean even more to a putz like myself.
Thanks again guys,
mojo
