You’ll hate me at the end of this post.
I got an Marantz 2270 on eBay. For $802, including. Seller had great ratings. Item description said that it had been restored and fully recapped.
However, I guess on the way over here the vibration of the trip must’ve messed with the insides of the receiver a bit. Going to attach a photo. You’ll see that the front panel is misaligned. The power button should be popping out more. And it’s touching the side of the hole it’s in. And the speakerphones jack is not properly aligned.
Plus, I guess a screw must’ve come out. On the way over here. So I only had three. The photos on the eBay list had none of the problems. I think the road must’ve messed with item a bit. Because I know that one other screw was already falling off as well and had to screw it myself.
I ordered the screws, got them today. Unplugged the receiver and put it on my table to work out on it. All I wanted to do was fix the misalignment and then add in the extra screw at the end.
But it all went to ****. First of all, after looking at many videos, I thought you’d take off the knobs by getting two spoons and putting them at each side of the knob. But that proved to be difficult. So I just used my hand to remove them, with the help of a flat screwdriver. Thing is, my dad was helping me. And he’s proved to becoming clumsier as he ages, and gets really impatient. Now some of the sides have a bit of scratched, and a bit on the knobs two. On top of that I was looking for the center nut that holds the panel together, something I saw on another video, and told to me on another post.
But I couldn’t find it. So I removed the knobs, and the screw, and removed the panel. But when I removed the panel, the bottom right thing where the screws get screwed in fell off. Not even sure how. Seemed like it was already loose. It was the same one that held the screw that was falling off back when I opened, as mentioned at the beginning of the post. Didn’t think it was a big deal. I’ll just put on later when I’m done. So I tried my best to see what can be done about aligning the panel. But there nothing to be done it seemed. I couldn’t see what the problems was. Just seemed like the insides themselves are just poorly aligned, and would take an expert to fix it. So I admitted defeat.
I tried putting back the thing I mentioned back in the hole it was in. But it proved to be very difficult at well. It just wouldn’t go in. It’s like it didn’t fit. 10
Minutes of trying, it fell into the hole where the tuner knob is......
It’s not even funny how shitty I feel. I couldn’t fix the problem, my panel now has some scratches (thankfully I’m getting a new one on the way but that’s not the point) and now I can’t screw in all 4 screws cause there’s a piece missing, and it’s deep inside somewhere I don’t know where. 100% my fault I admit. No doubt. Should’ve been more careful. But what done is done. I’m not sure what to do from here.....
Also I need help on how to remove the wood case.... didn’t think I’d need to. Tried googling it but couldn’t find anything.
