Anyone know where I can get replacement knobs for the "speaker select" and "tuning" for my Fisher 500C ?

Are you asking about the bakelight knobs or the potentiometers and switches behind them? If bakelight, I don't have them.
If you're talking about the pots and switches, I've got a bone unit 500-C and have to pull it down from it's high shelf to pull off a part for gdanner anyway. If that's the case, let me know.

No, not the pots. The actual knobs (I guess you call them "bakelight", sorry not familiar with the terminology) in front of the faceplate.

Here's the unit and the two knobs I'm refering to:

If you or any other member knows where I can get them on-line (original or replicas) it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your kind offer anyway, it's very much appreciated.

PS: Is the stereo beacon light supposed to turn a blue/green when zeroing in on a stereo station? Mine lights but is not blue/green.

The stereo beacon light has a bayonet style incandescent bulb behind it that closes when a relay closes. There's another one behind the signal strength indicator, but without the relay switch.
They'll be blue-green if you buy blue-green replacements from a fellow AK'er w(I can't recall his alias offhand).
You can also get festoon fuse-style side lights from him. I have some blue ones and they look way cool.

Bakelite is a pre-plastic composite material. So, you need two knobs. They don't look like the other ones. On the 500-C they're single, not double knobs.
As a lark I'd put a bid on some knobs on that auction site. I didn't win even though I'd bid an unreasonable sum. The four knobs went for $61!
If you go that route, there are two single style knobs. There's the front half of the bass and treble control style. Your bass and treble knobs are actually split so you can adjust each channel separately. If you pull the center knob out, you'll see that the form factor is right, but the knob is less deep than the depth you need for your two knobs. So, same style, but not quite right. You need two deeper ones to restore properly. I don't have any. Sorry.

I do believe there are one or two pairs of those thinner style 'tuning' knobs on the bay, as I type this.

Check pictures of correct, mint looking Fisher 400/500/800 series receivers before bidding though, to see which ones are correct for your application.

I see those type of Fisher 'tuning' knobs without the brass trim ring usually go for much less than the doubled tiered single piece, or double tiered split gang knobs with the brass trim ring style go for.

Does that make any sense? :scratch2:

Yeh, See that single is the inner half of a tone control knob. It's not deep enough (top to bottom as it lay on the table) for a selector or tuner knob. Also, the tuner knobs (if you want to be technically accurate) have no line like you see on the bottom of the single tone control inner piece in the picture.
Additionally, on that auction site, watch out for "chippies". The same single tone control inner knob we're discussing has chipped bakelite on the topright as we view the picture. That chipping won't be removed by putting a brass knob cap on it.

The knobs in the picture that cooljjay posted also have a raised indicator line on the barrel of the knob. The knobs on my 500B and on my Philharmonic IV console do NOT have that raised indicator tab on their barrels.
Just heads up if you want to be really anal about matching knobs off of the bay.

Hey no point out flaws :D I pulled some of these off my 800c. It looked like someone popped off the brights to polish them or something and chipped the knobs. They didn't realize you can pop the caps off by inserting a screw driver or stick threw the knob and it will pop the caps off.

To let you know the ones that have a raised lines on the barrels are the 2 piece knobs used for Treble and bass. The one piece knobs used on the volume, loudness, selector and balance only have the raised line on the rim of the larger knob, the speaker selector has a raised line and the tuner does not. I think the ones you have, have the line on the bright, the knobs that don't have raised lines on the barrel are suppose to have the brights with the line on it. The knobs with lines on the barrel are suppose to have plan brights.

Close! :D But mine are of a different variety altogether.

The knobs on both my 500B's have neither a line on the barrel of the knob or the line on the flat face of the bright.

My units have a small square dimple only on the beveled edge of each bright, including the split tone control knobs.
The 'tuning' knob has no indication of any kind, obviously. And the ' MPX ON OFF' knob on the left side of the dial glass is missing it's bright on both units, so I'm unsure if they originally had the indicator line on the face, or only the square dimple on the beveled edge. :scratch2:

The knobs on my 800c have some chipped edges. I think it is just because it is a thin little edge and they can easily chip. I tried to remove the brass ring from one, and did. But after polishing I inserted it and bent the tabs back to hold it and the knob cracked. They are just plain fragile, and perhaps more so after time. John

Jason,
Sorry, wasn't trying to point to your knob problems.
Don

I know always pointing out my defects :D You better not be a Virgo or we can spend a good hour arguing about chips and flaws :D:D Dwelling Virgos tonight at nine! lol

Interesting looking at so many Fishers I think that there wasn't a exact knob pattern for each model. I have that feeling they used what ever was in the factory or it could be that so many knob brights were falling off that Fisher was sending out after market knobs. The extra knobs I got came off a hybrid consle the same year as the 800C and the knobs look identical but on a very close look there is some differences.
