I’ll be starting the restoration of my Fisher 800-C and plan to take it one step at a time, starting with the power supply.
My initial steps will be replacing the Siemens selenium bridge rectifier with a modern silicon bridge, checking/replacing the main electrolytic capacitors, and then carefully checking the power supply voltages before proceeding further.
I’m using GE 7591A output tubes, and I’m a little concerned about the higher B+ voltage that can result from replacing the selenium rectifier with silicon.
A couple of questions for the group:
Any advice on the safest way to bring this 800-C back online would be greatly appreciated!

- What additional steps should I take after replacing the selenium bridge with a silicon rectifier?
- Should I add a dropping resistor or otherwise adjust the B+ voltage?
- Is there any real benefit to using 2200 µF capacitors in the power supply, or is that unnecessarily large for the 800-C?
