Fisher amps have high distortion?

consoles were also generally in the lower tier of equipment so its not too surprising that it performs less well than a top of the range model.

the lack of low bass is probably on purpose. Not a good idea to have subsonic capability in a big hollow box that has a record player installed 8 inches from the speakers.

That's right, gadg. Play an original copy of Led Zep's "Whole Lotta Love." When it gets to the bass and drum hits just before the guitar solo, the amplitude was so strong that people complained their needles jumped right out of the groove. Atlantic actually had to release a version 2 with the bass and drums attenuated. If anyone is interested, I can post how to tell a version 1 recording.

Yes thornev please do that sounds interesting... I know alot of my newer record that have a hiphop feel to it with the deep bass will skip on older record players but are fine on my magnetic carts

I knew I should have just wrote it originally... In the runout groove "SS RL" must be written not typed. That indicates that the record was mastered at Sterling Sound, not at Atlantic. Robert Ludwig did the mastering. The number of these copies is limited so they are difficult to find. I've read that the first copies of "Electric Ladyland" also had this problem. This applies to US versions of the album, not UK releases. Excuse me, Tony, for going off-topic.

EDIT: I just found a copy of the song to which you can listen:

Also, "1841 Broadway" would have to be on the label, not "75 Rockefeller."

I dont mind very interesting history thanks.

so much distortion I can see it in the pictures! Wonder what the THD required to make that happen is. Would be an interesting spectrum plot for sure.

Looks like about 20 units, each with 1% distortion per channel. That totals to 40% distortion.

Actually, 1% was quite reasonable for the time these units were built. At the McIntosh clinics, they guaranteed 0.5% for tube units but they did have a patented output transformer design.
